need quick help, BIG possible motor problem

I was driving home from work today. Taking it easy, especially since the roads are wet and my tires are a little bald.

Anyways, I was in 2nd gear and went up to about 4000rpm at 1/2 throttle (give or take) all of a sudden I get this massive backfire, and my rpms jump up to 6500-7000rpm.

I pull over and stop the car in a parking lot, and pop the hood, everything seemed to be fine. Figured a knock sensor or something. I called up my buddies to get their opinions. They told me to check for leaks, couldn't find any. I revved it up to see if i could hear any leaks, and for some reason the car goes past the stand still limiter now. Then they said pop off your oil cap and smell for gas. Did that, and it reaked of gas.

So what could this be? anyone? I've heard possible blown main seal, blown piston ring. etc. etc. Ended up having the car towed, because there's no way in hell i'm gonna drive home with gas mixing in with my oil.

I only have a 3" TBE, RPS clutch, and a buschur cone filter, I dont see those being involved in the problem.

So if you guys could give me your input, I'd be beyond greatful. And if anyone has had something similar happen, lemme know what it was, and if you got it fixed under warranty. I cant take it in until tuesday because of the gay holiday, so i'm carless for a few days.

On turbo cars oil always smells like gas. Every time I change my oil it has a gas smell especially since we run very rich.. hard to say what could have caused that though

Check your plugs, make sure they all look in good shap as in nothing broke or the strap bent over the electrode. Next do a compression test, if these both test out you are probably fine. If they don't you can go from there, it could of been several things that happened. Don't get too worried yet unless you have abused the car.

I'll check all that out. I'm just really paranoid about the car. Being 21 and buying an EVO after loving these cars since I first watched a WRC race, i'm a little protective of it lol. I dont think i've abused it more than the next guy to me. I mean I dont floor it everywhere I go. But everynow and then i give it some throttle. OR drag race at the track when it's open everynow and then.

And now that i'm calmed down a lot, I dont think it's something to bad, cause I didn't throw a CEL. Figured if I were to blow a seal, gasket or something like that'd i'd throw a CEL.

I had no idea turbo cars oil smells like gas. I'll go check my old mans car later today when I stop at their house and see if his smells like gas too.

Thanks for the input guys. And if anyone else has a theory please share.

Just got done with a compression test.

Cyl 1 - 178
Cyl 2- 170
Cyl 3- 180
Cyl 4- 182

I'm still gonna take it into the dealer. Cyle 2 is lower but still within limits, but still want the dealer to check it out just to be safe.

The dealer would say it's good down to 160 psi or less.

If you do the test 2 more times and get the same, then that may be an issue
