Shift lockout (sitting still) Trans?

I am experiance a weird "lock out" when I try a high RPM 1-2 shift. It happens intermittently............The weird thing is that I can get it to do the same thing when the car is not running and I am just move the shifter between 1st and 2nd. Every so often it "locks" and will not let it go into the 2nd gear position.

I am going to remove the battery and tray to get a better look, then disconnect the likage to try to diagnose it further...........but any thoughts?

Matt

I would try adjusting your clutch slave cylinder rod back toward the driver seat before attacking the transmission for it's faults.

Most likely it could be caused by syncros, because if it was the transmission, all of your gears would not work, not just 1st and 2nd.

Stock Clutch? warped discs? my slave cylinder went haywire once, and caused my trans to mess up, couldn't put in IN or OUT of gear! Too much air in the system. Bleed the system, look for leaks, My leak was under he airbox, where there are 1/2 or 3 nipples there, run your finger under the aluminum "pipes" to see if yours is leaking also. Does your car vibrate at 4K rpm's? did you change the timing belt or cams?

Dont syncros ONLY move when the car is running? syncronizes engine rpm with gears in the tranny? I say air in the lines!!!!!!!!!!!

I think gear lock out is fairely specific problem. Usually associated with transmission, clutch or even the shifter itself (cables).

I would check those before approaching other venues of trouble shooting.

syncro mesh does syncronize the rpm to the right gear.

But if you think about it, if there are are air bubbles in the line, all your gears would do that.

Transmission is like a group of that dies together and lives together. I think all the options are valid but the ugly fact of the matter is that most of the time, when the gear doesn't go into the box, it's the transmission problem.

Mine does the same thing, I can't shift any higher than 6500 without it doing that. But shifting at 6500 feels even faster than shifting it slower at 7200 so i'm ok with how it is now. I think it is a fairly common problem with these cars.

ACT tend to have a lock out at low rpm and very high rpm. it's a bit hard to shift time to time, but adjusting the slave cylinder seems to relieve that a bit.

I think it depends on installation and adjustment of the clutch. I have had no problems with my ACT with over 17,000 miles on it. Heck, my Advans have 23,000 miles on them, and there's at least another 7,000 in them.

I get locked out when going from 3rd to 4th gear at about 6500 rpms and up.

it will be good if people could verify which model clutch they have as well as some of the supporting modifications along with the transmission modification.

That may be a determining factor.

I am on the stock clutch, and this will happen to me 70% of the time doing High RPM shift changes. It really sucks!!
