I agree with bishiboy. If your cams are off 90 degree I don't think you can even start the car unless you have some kind of aftermarket ignition system. The spark plugs will fire but they will be very weak. If it's 90 degree off I would not drive the car like that and I'm surprise you dyno with it.

If both the tick on the cam gear is not in the same direction it's off. I suggest you check the timing by aligning the mark on the valve cover to the mark on the cam gear and look at the tick on the pulley.

When I change my cam timing on the gears by just 3-4 deg it makes the engine run very bad. If it was off by 90 you would be hitting your valves on the piston tops.
Also, if they are off. You don't have to remove the cams, just the cam gears. Also the only way they can be wrong is with aftermarket adustable gears. The stock cam gears only go one way.
Why would you adjust an AFC if you get flashed? The flash should be your tune. It's much more acurate than an AFC.
Maybe you should bet a second opinion.
Good luck
actually, useing a afc to piggy back a flash is a great tool. most mail in flashes are tuned conserivative (sp) so useing the afc to fine tune and ajust for all octanes of race fuel is a good thing . that is what i do.

He didn't say he had a mail in flash. If so, then yes AFc is cool to fine tune. But a custom flash is done for the particular car.
You can lean out a custom flash with AFC when running race gas too.

I do have adjustable cam gears but they can’t be adjusted far enough to fix the problem. I think they are like 30 degrees off not 90 like I posted. Here is a pic of one of the cam gears you can see where it says evo on it next to the bolt that connects the cam to the gear. The word evo should be on top of the bolt, and in the pic you can see that it goes into the bolt, which is wrong.

So someone used the wrong dowel hole for tdc on the cam gears. That would mean that the cam gear adjustment markings should end up on the right (3 o' clock) when using the evo dowel hole, correct?

for the meantime i would releive tension on the timing belt, take off that cam gear then rotate the cam to the correct position. I am more than sure you will be extremely happy after you do this. I mean, spend the hour or so and just do it. To pick up 100 horsepower, shouldn't even be a question.

327hp / 314tq on pump gas at 24 pounds on a mustang dyno. the tune is conservative right now until i can afford to get a meth kit and crank the boost up some more. now the tune is also on the stock ecu with the afc so i am sure i would make more power with a stand alone. i am seeing full boost at 4200rpm and the spool is not that bad for driving around on the streets. i am also still on the stock clutch and my car is over 40,000 miles now!
