When I get my hks 272 intake and exhaust cams will I also need to buy either hks or aem cam gears or will the stock cam gears work well with them.

Stock cam gears are fine. Adjustable would help you dial in your powerband where you want it, and can help idle smoother.

It's fine if you don't mind a lumpy idle and you don't want to shift your power band to suit your needs.

cam gears are cam gears. they all work the same. adjustable ones anyways. Anyone who says one style tends to slip doesnt know what they are talking about. Do you think any manufacturer would put out a product that failed? Torque them properly, youll be ok.

When i had my HKS 272/272 cams fitted , my tuner found that TDC (0deg/0deg) wasn't 0deg/0deg on the pulies , quite a way off really .

It'd be recomended to fit the adjustable cam gearing , set it up to tdc first , the tune it from their .

with mine at TDC it's really smooth on tick-over for the type of the cams.

We have tested the HKS cams with +1/-1 setup which made 10whp on our Mustang 4wd dyno. Alot of people will tell you cam gears are not needed and they are right. However, if you want to extract more power from the cams, I would highly recommend a 5 bolt design gears like Helix, AEM, or Fidanza.

Thanks,
Tom

i just purchased some 272's gsc cams and i hear there are no idleing issues so cam gears are not needed to fix the idle problem. No ideling issues since the version 2 cams are micropolished or something. Anyone know anything about this or back theis up?

I broke a set of Fidanza Dont buy those ones. The HKS seem to work great.

I never adjusted the Fidanzas but I did use a TQ wrench to ensure they were tight enough from the factory (And they were so I didnt need to tighten them anymore). Needless to say, a few months later the cracked. Luckily I saw the problem before they broke completely apart and destroyed my motor.
