The reason for the dealer run-around is the plain fact that they dont have a damn clue about the car yet. Since the intercooler sprayer isnt something that is used much in factory cars, these "by-the-manual" techs have no idea about it. Your best bet, much like last year with the WRX will be to by the repair manual yourself and not rely on the factory for a year or so until they can send some of their techs to school on the EVO. As a former BMW tech it amazes me how little these guys know outside of what the computer or manual tells them.

The Answer to all of you question is no, the only way Auto-work is when you restart the car and activate it,I is only desighned for High speed, and hard use-and only comes on depending on the intake manifold temp, other wise just using when the motor isn't being worked is a waist of fluid.

Hey, just picked up my new Evo yesterday and heres an intercooler question...
Is the clear line out of the side of the sprayer tank the overflow, or is my sprayer not hooked up? I tried to fill the tank, and it ran out the clear line onto the ground.
Thanks in advance!

you can't fill it all the way up, it'll do what it did and leak everything to the ground, fill it up 75% and it should stay.

But that's the point of "auto" versus manual. Let the ECU monitor conditions for us and activate the system when it's useful. I'd rather have the car in "auto" mode by default rather than off completely.

Looking at the schematics, this appears to be entirely ECU controlled. Which means an ECU code change will be able to alter the default mode of operation. Sweet. And it's not based on intake manifold temperature, BTW. The auto operation is based on cool temp, throttle position, speed, and airflow. I don't even think the EVO ECU has an input for manifold temperature.

I learned that the hard way the other night. I thought my spray bottle didn't look very full so I started filling it up, got fluid all over my garage floor. Whoops!

Not quite right. The intercooler sprayer is for low-speed / high-load conditions, such as autocross. At high speed you have enough flow across the intercooler - the spray would be redundant.

Adios,

I hear you Iodine23, same thing happened to me!
Anyone's thoughts on the nitrous intercooler cooling system in the last issue of SCC?

Good nitrous should not be wasted on the outside of an intercooler. Spray that stuff into the intake manifold and get the benefits from not only a cooling effect, but also all that good oxygen going into the motor.

BTW, I'm assuming the thing you're talking about sprayed NO2 on the outside of the intercooler as a way of increasing intercooler efficiency...
