You don't need it, but if you want to, go for it.

Reason people wrap exhaust parts or coat them is to keep heat intensity up; velocity of air increases with heat. In short, the more you can keep the heat inside the exhaust, the quicker it'll flow out.

and to keep heat away from oil pan?

Wrap it - end it just short of the cat/test pipe; don't want to heat that up too much!

I would like to wrap mine. I notice that the DP is close the LICP. I know there is another thread if you search with pics of a guy who wrapped his DP. Looked good.

my friend wrapped his Megan DP. its interesting to see heat wrap on a DP as u would usually see it on ex. manifolds...as far as keeping heat in and away from nE cooling parts, i guess it would help some to wrap it....but yeah dont wrap it too much and suffocate your cat

i heard that wrap, as nice as it is because it doesnt transmit heat onto other things, has an adverse effect on the downpipe and increase the temp. of the metal off the dp, and sometimes can cause it to prematurally crack!
And if it was truly needed more people would have them. I dont think Al has it on his car, AMS i havent seen any or any other vendor for that matter!

AMS and shops such as, usually jet hot coat exhaust parts...it just looks nicer and holds in more heat.

I heat wrapped my DP to keep the heat off of my oilpan. Roadracing an Evo is a very hot experience and I am trying to keep my engine as cool as possible. If it causes my DP to crack then fine since I would much rather spend $250 on another DP then spin ANOTHER bearing.

High temp coating isn't as pricey as people think. A downpipe is about $75 and a lot of header wrap kits are $40. The coating helps reflect the heat away from the metal (if coated on both sides) and also doesn't retain corrosion inducing moisture. And then there is the risk of fire if you ever get a flammable fluid leaking and accumulating on header wrap. Better just to spend the extra $40 or so and get a good coating.

I did it just to reduce the noise in the engine bay. It did help. Also heat wrapped the muffler which helped a little too.

My roommate, who doesn't listen to anything I say just wrapped the entire cat-back on his MR. Please explain why this is not profitable. Go easy, he is very defensive. Honestly, even wrapping the downpipe is not profitable. Please help.
