I'm new to the site- just ordered my new evo IX MR today... it should be here in a week or so
I was wondering what peoples opinions are on what the best cold air intake setup is for the IX and if any kits for the VIII will fit it too- I was really wanting to get the AEM cold air intake (more specifically the V2 system, but I dont think they make one for the Evo yet) but I cant find anyone who knows if their cold air intake system for the VIII will also fit the IX... as a second choice, any thoughts on which one to go with?
Also, has anybody bolted on an aftermarket intake manifold? Weapon R claims theirs makes 50whp.... any thoughts on that? Thanks inadvance for any positive feedback

skip the air intake its just not worth it. save the money and put on a turbo back exhaust. you'll be wasting money on an intake when the stock air box is good for well over 300 and probably close to 400hp. search and you will see everyone tell people to stay away from intakes unless they are gonig to get tuned to have one and when they tell them to stay away they say put on an exhaust because the power will be much better. What an aftermarket intake will do unless the car is tuned correctly is screw up your MAF readings and could actually make your car run worse and lose power. just some more info you'll find in tons of threads upon searching
weapon r is lying. I'd suggest leaving the intake alone and getting a turbo back exhaust as your first mod, then a boost gauge, then a manual boost controller, and finally a tune from dynoflash(or Vishnu, Turbotrix, and AMS). They all do mail in flash's I think. If you spend some time searching these mods you will find it a very common mod path to follow with great power for your money.
Ok I misread and didn't see your second question was about an intake manifold. I still don't think you'll see 50whp without ALOT of supporting mods. I'd stay away from the intake manifold.

Sweet- I was also planning on a turbo-back exhaust with a high-flow cat right away.... also want to get the dynoflash and boost controller.... maybe after those parts I'll add the cold air intake and intake manifold.... thanks for the responses!
Please do not buy an intake manifold on your nearly-stock Evo. You also don't need the intake. Just stick with the mod packages in my sig. That will give you the most power for the least money spent...
