4.11 Gear Option w/Shepp tranny

Hey I was just curious if anyone out there has done this with Shepp or another comany (only know of Shepp). If so comments feedback etc., also what mods you have engine wise. I am giving this serious consideration right now and will be doing an AMS 2.3 stroker/Shepp tranny soon. Thanks in advance.

Oh this will be mainly a drag car, with some roadcourse action. I have the RnR 3076R kit now and will either upgrade to a 35R or go AMS 37R.

4.11 makes the car harder to launch. Makes the car slower too. You would be better off goeing with the rs gear to make the car quicker.

I thought the longer gears would benefit the bigger turbos etc? I agree with the launching point though.

That gear ratio is designed for cars making alot of HP... probably in the 8 to 9 second range.

I have 3.75 final gear in my DOG BOX and acceleration much faster that with stock
On big power stock ratio becomes restrictive

Much agreed. After tuning his car, its apparent that the car is in need of a lower (numerical) final drive. When you car accelerates harder in 4th gear than it does in 2nd and 3rd is good evidence of that.

Everyones car makes more g-force in third than it does in forth. I pull about .95 g in third, in forth the g force is around .65.

Lowering your final drive will lower the g-force in all five gears.
Raising final drive will increase g-force in every gear.
Big turbo small turbo, there are no exceptions. Its just simple math.

It is easier to launch your car in first than it is in second. Raising the final drive raises all gears including first.

The first guy on this board that ran a 10 on the stock block was using a higher final drive. Not too many people picked up on it that it was a good idea.

local here went 12.2 on his 24.5" tires. Bolted on my 23.3 inch tires with no other changes and went 11.7.

So what would the benefit be of the 4.11 Gear option be than?

Being able to top out at 195 instead of 175. If you have the power.

Or carry 4th gear through the traps on a stroker with a big turbo. Gear ratios will change how a big turbo is loaded in critical 2nd and 3rd gear which could help but it could also hurt depending on where you power is so I would etnd to favor the shortest gear. One gear will not work for all cars, its all about the right gear for your car. You want to run the shortest gear you can for your MPH.

I have the 3.86 gearing from TRE and I love it. I am still running the stock turbo so I'm sure when I upgrade it'll shine even more. With a AMS 2.3 bottom end and cosworth head, my car is still plenty fast, even with taller gears. When you start getting up there in the power department, you need more gear, otherwise you'll just be shifting every 2 seconds and though you'll have great speed, you will have gone nowhere down the road. Does that make any sense?

So, the 4.11 is probably a good compromise, but with a 2.3 + GT35R (GT37R), I would definately get a taller final drive, be it a 4.11 or 3.86.
