high rpm's for 1/4 mile

to hit higher rpm's ex. 8k give or take....i need cams, valve springs and retainers...anything else? and what would i expect to rev with that...

the reason i ask is my mods list is almost complete and on the drag strip i would like to finish in 4th gear instead of having to make that shift into 5th and this seems like the solution...

thanks in advance!

8000 will get you to about 120 or so. On the stock motor I wont recoment running much higher than 82-8400 tops. 8000 will be safe.

Goodluck

u will need ARP head bolts cuz the head begins to LIFT over 7850rpm. if you're gonna do cams, get valve springs, valve guides, retainers, lifters, ARP head bolts, & a Cometic head gasket. oh yeah, make sure all your internals are titanium. or you could just do what i'm doing & get a Cosworth built head. Also, Tomei is coming out with some 280 cams that will have 12.2 lift!!!!!!!!! i can't wait to put those in. the Tomei 280 11.8's already make the most power...

head begins to lift over 7850?

Just get valve springs and retainers for the head. You should also think about better rods and rod bolts at that point.

There are a number of people taking the stock motor to 8k+ however.

they don't realize that the car isn't making any power past 7500 even with a flash. i used to shift at 7800 until i took almost .4 of my 1/4 time by shifting earlier...

The head does not lift from RPMs Thats not very intelligent. The head lifts from high boost and power. Think about it... it is the top of the combustion chamber, more air you shove in there and bigger bang pushes harder against the head.

About what you need to spin it past 8k is nothing. I spin mine to around 8.5k quite often. Ive screwed up and spun it to 9.1k... stock everything with HKS 272/272 cams.

And about shifting earlier because your not making power that is not entirely true. Im not sure how much you know about how TQ works but the lower the gearing, the more TQ you make to the ground. It is like a pully system, you WILL accelerate faster in a lower gear even if you are technically making less power. On top of that you will hit higher in the next gear landing it in a better power band.

That's only because you have no clue what you're doing, yet you go around talking like you're an authority. It was retarded to ever shift at 7800 rpms. Everyone else knows not to do that, but this isn't even the point. People can make power up there with the right setup with the right cams. YOu had stock cams, so of course shifting up there was hurting you. This guy is asking about getting setup for high rpm power. Also, we have to rag it out really far in 4th gear at the drag strip, so it becomes very important to make safe and reliable power up there.

Btw, Miki, there's no way he gets near 120mph at 8000rpm. The IX 5spd has very short gearing. He might be at 115mph or so at that point...
