When is it necessary to upgrade injectors? Only when swapping out the stock turbo or running higher than 21ish pounds of boost?

Yes youll need it for an upgraded turbo. Its hard to really max out the stock injectors on the stock turbo. Im doing it but my numbers are higher than most.

I was at 100% IDC on my 378whp run on pump gas.

I've been told that using 272I/272E cams gives you a rough idle, the guy i talked to at AMS recomended going with 264I/272E without adjustable cam gears, do you think i would like 272I/272E better though? should i get adjustable cam gears, or no adjustable cams gears?

I wouldn't spend the money on HKS. Comp cams are just as good if not better and about $250 cheaper. The cams and a fuel pump are all you need. I've got cam gears on Comp 272's. You will hear different opinions on if they are worth it or not. They are the single best mod I have done. I'm like you I don't go to the track often but, enjoy working on my car. So, I keep going.

What was the single best mod, the cams or cam gears?

Sorry for that being a little confusing to read. I meant the cams but, I count the cams and the gears as one mod. I can't say that the gears are worth it or not because I haven't tried the timing to 0,0. At -2,-2 the car idles well and pulls hard all the way to 7500. It just doesn't let up.

I am not sure why everyone recommends spending $600+ on cams which typically only yields a 30-40 hp increase in power (if that). Doesn't it make more sense to just spend the money getting your car tuned to run more boost? (bigger injectors/fuel pump/flash/boost controler)?

Yeah but many evo owners opt for a cam install as one of their first mods, which I think is incredibly stupid. Cams aren't a good mod for the money spent. There are many DSM owners running 600-700 hp cars on a stock head with stock cams.

Im asking because it will take me a few months to save up the money, and i dont plan on racing the car. I've just become trapped in the EVO modding. I love the car, and love the power, but cant decide if these things will be worth it. Also, I dont plan on upgrading the turbo. I just want as much reliable power as i can get without going into debt.

...Also, if anyone has any better ideas im open for suggestions.

Thanks...
YES!!!!Enjoy definitely afterwards!

Why just keep putting more fuel and boost to it when you can make more power with the same amount of boost? How much power do you think you can gain by putting more fuel to it? I mean the car runs pig rich from the factory and makes more power by leaning it out. Besides you can only add so much fuel before you need more air and the turbo will only flow so much. So, you need the increased duration and lift to better fill the cylinder. Lets also not forget more boost gets you closer to flirting with detonation and will probably require you to pull some ignition timing.

Not to mention where cams make the power. I mean lets face it the bottom end power is pretty much non existant so, you might as well be making more power in the mid-range and top end where you can use the power and the factory turbo is running out of breath.
