why does the stock EVO IX MR make a slight ticking noise at idle

you can really only here the ticking noise if the hood is open

i was just curious why our cars tick?

mine has done it from day 1, i have 5400 miles now and still same noise, its very faint, but im just curious why it does it

 

My guess it's just the ticking sound the lifters make since you said 'very faint.'

 

Check your oil level.

 

it made the same noise when it had 6 miles on it

i had oil changed at Mitsu at 3000 miles, i only have 2400 miles on current oil

 

its normal.

Every new Evo has that ticking sound....it's the countdown timer that will tell you when you get the modding bug and you have to drop in at least a TBE, boost controller and possibly a flash.

 

It's a special 4G63 engine noise. It's normal :P

+1 look at one thread history..i asked the same question when i got my evo. it's normal.

 

I had to get use to it as well, it's just the sound of the motor. We get the ticking noise while the sti gets that sweet rumble.....

 

those little buggers sure are noisy..

 

my eclipse gst had the same tick. it's inherent in the 4g63...

 

I have 9000 miles on my RS and just noticed the tick. Mitsu looked at it today and said it wash the lash adjuster and not to worry about it.
