Miles: 28k
Conditions: Track Day @ Sebring, chasing some track prepped 911 Turbos on a hot day, drafted for 5 laps and over-temped radiator then spit a rod out front of block and cap out the back (2 holes in block, just to make sure it was dead )
Pics: On The Way
Race/Track History: 3 roadcourse weekends, 6 autox, daily flogging.
Contributing Factors: #3 rod separated in two. No over-revs that I know of. Hit the raised rev limiter a few times @ 7800. Oil was changed after every trackday and everymonth when not being tracked.

WATCH YOUR WATER TEMP!!!!!

I guess the evo is not designed for the track if pushing more power. You basically exceed the engines thermal limit. The design is probably just pushing it stock. A 911 turbo can do that for hours

i disagree with your opinion/post in certain areas. preferable the "pushing it stock" part

theres a member of motorsport ranch kelly and i know that bought a stock evo, put hoosiers and basic bolt ons on it, and they have over 8000 pure track miles on the car and are still running it with no problems. this car isnt even daily driven...100% track time minues engine break in procedure.

Jim another member of our evo club has 98k miles and tracks his car once a month.

kelly is a member of MSR also, he has 90k miles and tracks his car twice a month.

there are more, but i dont need to prove a point or start an argument. the evo in my opinion is a great and reliable track car from the factory. its all in how we(the evo owners) choose to screw it up for ourselves, for instance, huge turbos and over-revving etc.

I noticed there are not a lot of IX's in this thread, and the ones that are were flogged pretty hard and heavily modded. Does that mean the IX had a lot of weak spots designed out, or just not as many people owning one?

The IX has higher thermal limitations, the VIII's are older were put through more suffering from bad tune back when tuning was in it's infancy stages

Man that is a bummer. Sounds like a bad tune! If you are anywhere near the Portland/Vancouver area, I'd recommend you go to English Racing. They did a fantastic job on my Evo IX MR. It's putting down 350whp on the dyno, at 25psi. I've been driving it for about 4 weeks and the engine knock light has only lit up twice, briefly.
