shifting tension

This weekend some friends and I changed out a few things on my car. We changed my exhaust out (full turboback) my intake and my bov. We tried to put in my new FMIC but it didn't fit =\ We also tried changing out my exhaust manifold but it got to be too much trouble and we didn't want to take the turbo out.

After we put the bumper back on and got everything bolted up the car ran fine and held boost fine. The next day I noticed pulling the shifter out of 3rd had a bit of tension and it later progressed into the 4th haivng tension when pulling out of it as well. 1-2-5-6-R all shift smooth and clean but there is a pretty decent amount of tension there when you change to 3rd or 4th or out of 3rd or 4th.

Some have guessed possibly my syncro's are gone but others have said if its my syncros then usually it'll be all my gears and not just two. Other things about it, my clutch had recently been changed to an ACT-HDSS and it is running great. Grabs hard, and fast. Also every single gear (including 3rd and 4th) still grab instantly. I never hit between or grind so thats another thing keeping people from thinking it may be syncros.

Some said we may have pinched some sort of oil line accidently and caused this to happen.

I just wanted to throw that out there and see if anyone else could give me another perspective or hope that it isn't my syncro's

Kevin

Not necessarily true. My 5th gear synchro went out on me and the others we perfectly fine. However, I recommend changing out all of the synchros if you are having problems with one...mitsu did it for me now questions asked...although I am unmodded

I forgot to ask the question...are you still getting the same tension if you double clutch before shifting gears? I know that when I was having problems with my 5th gear synchro this would somewhat alleviate the problem. This could just be another method for diagnosing the problem

I am having the same problem with my IX MR. Have no clue why it started doing this. 3rd to 4th just seems like it wants to "drag" going into gear. It just started doing it one day. I changed the gearbox oil but it did not seem to help. I also would like to know if anyone has a fix for this. Oh, and I only have 1600 miles on the car.

First go back and make sure that nothing was damaged along the clutch hydraulic line, and nothing is interfering with the clutch fork. Then make sure nothing was dropped down on to the shifter cables/mechanisms at the tranny. Funny story with a guy who "lost" his 10mm wrench, and his tranny would not shift after a clutch install.

Lastly, make sure the clutch pedal fee play adjustment is correct. If you are one of those who likes to adjust your clutch pedal engagement right off the floor, you are doing your tranny a disservice, and should go ahead and start making arrangements with Shep/TRE/TT or another tranny re-builder of choice. This CAN prevent complete disengagement of the clutch disk... slowly wearing out your tranny.
