So Confused ... Turbo Question

Hey guys sorry for another some what stupid post, but I'm really confused on the whole turbo thing ....

Can someone just give me a basic run down on what turbo came stock on what model evo as well as what are all the options for upgrades...

For example I an reading stuff about the 20g and read in one post that its the stock turbo on the IX but then read in another post that some guy with a IX wants to upgrade to a 20G ...

Also another confusing topic to me is hotsides and o2 housings and what each model has ... excuse my ignorance but I'm just trying to figure it out ... there is so much information on here and I have been searching & reading for hours and just seem to get more mixed up.

Sorry for being such a noob when it comes to the Evos turbo

This information is not confusing. I don't know what you're reading.

All USDM Evos have the 16G6, but...

03-04 = 9.8cm^2 hotside (exhaust housing size)
05 = 10.5cm^2 hotside (bigger exhaust housing)
06 = same as 05 but with larger compressor housing

There is no Evo with a 20g - of course it's an upgrade. A few toolbags have gotten confused and said the IX comes with the 20g, but they didn't know what they were talking about.

All years have the same o2 housing.

Thanks I appreciate the info ... that makes a lot more sense now.

So here is another noob question ... when people are talking about upgrading the 02 housing that applies to all models (VIII - IX)? I'm guessing so since you said all models are the same. What are the benifits?

Is the 10.5 Hotside the best or do people upgrade those as well?

Blah. I knew if I spoonfed you that you'd ask more newbie questions that can be found with a little bit of searching.

If you want to know why we upgrade our o2 housings, go search for threads I've started where I showed comparison pics of before and after. You will see why we either upgrade or port our stock O2 housings.

There is no bigger exhaust housing than the 10.5. People with 03-04s upgrade to it to keep the stock turbo but with a little more power. After that, there is no changing your exhaust housing unless you do a complete turbo upgrade.
