Remote locking - how to remove the horn

I hate that f'ing horn beep every time I use the remote to lock my car. I feel like one of this little kids who just installed an alarm on the $500 car and is beeping it at McDonalds to impress the ladies.

Anyway... anyone know how to program that out? I have not checked my owners manual because I am at work.

thanks

When I picked up the car I asked the delivery person if that can be changed. She said no. I spent a few moments with the owners manual and I remember reading something about this. Are you going to make me go into the garage?

Pretty much. I'm assuming you have the same keyless entry system we do. Your keys should have come with a little laminated card that details how to engage and disengage the honking and light functions. I can't say I remember how off the top of my head though.

Read the manual though, thats why its there

Andrew,

I never saw any laminated card. I only read about it in the manual. It wouldn't suprise me if it was something I was supposed to get. My remote has two buttons on it. At the far edge is LOCK and right next to it is unlock. Is this the same as yours?

The instructions for my car are actually molded into the back of my key fob.
Like Crzylizard said, mine says to hold Lock and Unlock for 2 seconds to switch from "beep" to "quiet". I don't know if it's exactly the same for Lancers.

um...did you read my thread.... it states clearly... I DID NOT READ THE MANUAL, I AM AT WORK.

But that was pretty impressive that you remembered the RTFM.

I know you were at work at the time, I just like saying RTFM. It brings me joy.

I think his assumption is that you can probably hold off on this until you get home to the manual.

to remove the horn:
1) press and hold the lock button for 4-10sec.,
2) press the unlock button in between the 4-10sec.
3) release both buttons at the same time.

that should do it, i forgot if you have to be in the lock or unlock mode, but thats how i did it, same way to turn it on
