On my Celica All-Trac... I had a SPEC stage 3 clutch, 6 puck style. I'd say after about 10k miles of normal driving, very few launches, ALL 6 of the pads on the pucks were worn down to the metal. The car felt and drove normal but there have been a lot of good and bad comments about SPEC in the 3sgte world. I'd probably just cough up the extra cash and get something better.

SPEC=garbage. Had one on my subie. after a 2000 km break in I had two launches and the thing died... they said it was rated 350 lbs... BS... unless I was making 400 lbs...

I had a SPEC stage 3 in my Galant VR4 and I was very unhappy with it. I'll never buy, sell, install or recommend one again. I know tons of people who have had problems with them. Far more than ACT, Clutchmasters, RPS, or Competition Clutch. (all great single plate setups)

looks like tranny was banging against pressure plate (above) when mating it to the shaft during installation

Removed clip some needle nose pliers - *******?

Does a pressure plate look like this after backwards disc install? If flywheel side is down as mentioned in the disc pics below, then that's backwards

That looks just like the same part as stock but blue, wierd

i have 5 friends (none with evo's mind you) with spec clutches. one has a s mall sponsorship with them. none of them have had any problems, and say their customer service is great. sorry you are having all these problems, but i can tell you this is not a regular thing with spec.

I think I have made a similar mistake in going w/a SPEC clutch for my Evo. After spending 10 hours doing an install of my brand new transmission and SPEC clutch, the mechanic from Kwik Kar called and said that after he was done, he went to test drive it, pushed in the clutch pedal and felt something break.

He had to undo all his work to find out that the "snap ring"/"clip ring" that SPEC provided was too thick and he had to charge me for double the labor. I contacted SPEC about this and they blamed the mechanic for doing it wrong and said it COULD NOT be the wrong snap ring as Mitsu provides them with the factory part.

Is anyone else having issues w/SPEC clutches??

Sounds to me like QA issues at SPEC ... caveat emptor.

I personally know of 2 other cars (DSMs) that have had Spec clutches and have all failed pretty badly.

Wow. hopefully everything works out.

I have used a Spec clutch in the past in my RB25DET (skyline) motor and never had an issue with it.

Good god, your lucky your Evo doesnt look like that guys Vett in those pics. With parts like that it's only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt and a lawsuit puts them out of business.

Ive seen NOTHING but horror stories with SPEC clutches from many different vehicles. I have yet to see anything positive said about them in the past 7 years. I would never buy one of them for any car.

Let me know if you figure anything out. Could it be a possible problem with the rod length in the slave cylinder? I heard of some people getting a shorter rod.
I did the same once at the track. I thought mine was a freak occurance, guess not.
