BG SynchroShift ok to use in 06 EVO IX MR Tranny?

Hello, I couldn’t find any info on this while searching. But I have a track day coming up on the 19th and I wanted to change out my Tranny fluid before I attend. I already ordered the DiaQueen LSD gear oil SAE90 for the transfer case and rear diff. BTW that is the correct oil to use right? Ok anyway I read my manual and it said to use DiaQueen Super Multi Gear oil GL4 75w-85 or an exact equivalent in the 6spd tranny. But I herd very good things about the BG Synchro Shift and my friends shop has them for a very good price. The thing is I cannot find any info on what GL rating and what weight it is. Can anyone give me some info if is safe for me to use this oil in my transmission?

Thanks, Jeff

Yes, y ou bought the proper gear oil for the t-case and rear diff.

The BG is what a lot of people use (myself included), but it is NOT a direct equivalent to the Super Diaqueen 75w-85. It's close enough that it works well, but some people still prefer to get the exact Mitsu OEM Super Diaqueen to be safe. Some people also have not liked BG in their 6spd, but it's not a common theme.

Also, one last issue is that some people say to use BG 1 while others like Razorlab appear to use BG II, despite the fact that some people swear against it due to not being fully synthetic or something. I have read the arguments on both sides and concluded that I should use BG1, but I can't remember the details as to why. I'd have to find the thread again...

Redline isn't bad that's what i use and seems to work very well two MTL's and one MT-90, but that is just me thought I'd put it out there for ya.

You might look into the Amsoil MTG, its got the GL4 rating that you are looking for. I run it in my car and it's very smooth. Well that plus the Shep Tranny.

Btw, my clutch is being installed today/tomorrow, so I had to go find some tranny fluid. I had planned on using the OEM Super Diaqueen fluid from Mitsu, but when I called the parts department today, they informed me that they just buy generic 75w-90 in bulk 120-gallon drums and don't even use the OEM fluid. How stupid is that? The guy didn't even know that the MR had its own special tranny fluid, so I went to NAPA and got BT Synchroshift, which was the only option locally.

For reference, it is BG Synchroshift II, and it is fully synthetic (re: razorlab).

I would have to say get the Super Multi gear oil specific to the 6sp.

I may have been the only one to yet break a 6sp so I suspect anything other than the fluid is like rolling the dice on a $4571 transmission.

Whoa, Scott, so you went from 11.70 to 11.51 at the same mph, but killed the tranny in the process I guess. You had been swearing by the Pennzoil Synchromesh, but are you guessing that it may have led to the tranny's demise? With the abuse you gave it, I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing would happen with any fluid, but do you feel strongly on this?

I have been told that your approach is the best way to protect the tranny. The Syncromesh/Syncroshift makes shifting smoother, but the redline comob gives better tranny protection.

I DO NOT like the BG Synchoshift in my tranny. I am going to have the MOPAR fully synthetic put in, which is 75W-85 just like the Super DiaQueen. It is repackaged Castol SynTorq LT, which they use in Europe. The British guys like it, and it was recommended by a guy on this board who didn't like the BG either. Mopar part # is 04874459. It's GL-4, just like you're supposed to use.

Let us know how it works for you, atlvalet. I didn't have an option, because I had to go get what was immediately available today after finding out that my local Mitsu doesn't even stock the proper tranny fluid.

Launch limiter, tire pressure, track prep, trans configuration are contributing factors to the E.T. The 11.51 is on the 2nd pass of the new trans. The first pass was 11.66. I have not no-lifted this trans as of yet.

I need to open the old trans to find out what went wrong, but from what I suspect, 4th gear went and took out 1 and 2.

I use BG Synchroshift II in the trans and DiaQueen in the t-case and rear diff.
