High-revving
High-revving
I know, after putting approximately 150+ laps on my new Evo. VIII
since I bought it 4 weeks ago, that the power band drops out just after 6500 revs. However, when on the track, and during reasonably heavy cornering on the street, under the speed limit of course
, most notably during a steady throttle downhill, the car may exceed redline on the tach. While I make a great deal of effort to prevent this from happening, I have gone up to around 7,500. When I inquired to my local dealer shop during a routine tech about a rev-limiter, I was informed that the car doesn't have one. Since, for obvious reasons, I have not been willing to empirically challenge this claim, I was wondering if anyone has noticed the presence of the rev-limiter. Additionally, since I feel it is a beneficial addition to the car along with a possible shift-light, could anybody recommend a decent aftermarket supplier for these? Any comments are much welcomed.

EVO 8's Rev limit is 7395rpm.
When you reach target Rev limits.
ECU cut Fuel and control not over 7400rpm.
But If you Down hill or miss shift down (with no Accel)
ECU cut fuel but Engine's RPM exceed Rev limits.
cause Engine, tranny and wheel links all together.
Only you can contorl it with cluch.
Very hard to explain cause my poor English.
It makes me crazy...

I do understand what you're saying, -that the transmission is linked to the engine, and revs up the engine without acceleration by turning the driveshaft,- however, even while just accelerating, and not going downhill, I don't catch a rev-limiter. Additionally, as I said in my previous post, the Mitsubishi service department, after inspecting my car, since I require oil changes after every track event and they do them for free 1/2 the time
, said that there wasn't a rev-limiter per se. I'm talking about the standard kind that you will bounce off of when the spark plugs stop firing, otherwise know as a "hard" rev-limiter. It just seems strange since others report a soft rev-limiter at different RPMs.

Do you really think that Mitsubishi would sell several thousand Evos without a rev limiter with a warranty?!
Either the rev limiter is higher than you have revved or your car is faulty. I think it's indeed 7400 or 7500 rpms, something like that. I have read messages on here reporting 7800 rpms I think. Just try it out if you have a warranty (maybe they void it if you use the car on the track? They do that in some countries...)
I guess it won't really affect how I drive the car. However, I did specifically ask the head mechanic down at the Mitsu. service facility about it. I guess the only one they have is a soft rev-limiter. Also, I got literally the second one off the truck in the Bay Area, so perhaps one wasn't installed because of time constraints. You are right in that warranty would cover it. But since there's no reason to be that high in redline, I'm waiting until someone decides to go ahead and test it out. -I pity tha foo
