driving on a slipping clutch

Sup everyone, my clutch is currently slipping pretty bad right around 3 k rpm it will slip this is after going to the track , i dont have the money right now to get a clutch the one i want is the exedy twin disk cerametallic and that costs a pretty penny and thats not even with installation. Is it ok to drive around and baby the car? Or should i leave it in the garage till i get enough money to replace it.

Yes, I daily drove around the last 3 weeks with my ACT slipping like crazy. If you stay out of boost, the car should run fine with no problems.

Btw, my Exedy is now in and working nicely - review to follow.

The problem is that the stock clutch has a wear limiter. Once it hits the stops, it will start slipping and get progressively worse in no time at all.

why not just go with an act....I thought they were good? my friend runs a 2100 with street disc in his 1G that traps at about 130mph? no slipping issues whatsoever.... I cant imagine paying 1500 for a clutch?

Don't be an idiot and shift into 5th right away thinking you're doing the clutch a favor. Stay in a lower gear when you can and off boost no matter what.

Ah yes, I haven't experienced this on either clutch, because neither was down to the wear limiter.

Dirk, you will see the carnage soon. I just got the car back today and have the PP/flywheel/disk in a box. The disk is ugly but not all the way worn. The PP and flywheel are destroyed just like my stock set.

They may be good, but not THAT good. No one in their right mind would run an ACT 2100 with a 500+whp car. ACT doesn't even use the 2600 anymore...now, they're all 2900s. I'm sure Dirk wouldn't recommend a basic ACT HDSS for a car with that much power either. That just doesn't make sense.

$1500 for a twin disk that can hold more power, launch harder, shift smoother, withstand more abuse, and includes a lightened flywheel is worth it...

400HP sure, but 500 is definitely pushing it. Of course it is really a matter of torque, not HP but that is another discussion. What do you mean we don't use the 2600 any more? Really the numbers are a carry over from you ex-DSMers that some how caught on to the clamp load ratings for our HD and Xtreme pressure plates specifically for the DSM. In reality the clamp loads are relative to the application. It only makes sense that a stock Cobra Mustang clutch is heavier than our Xtreme Honda clutch. Heck the stock clutch on the EVO is 2200lbs. For referrence our HD for the EVO is about 3100lb but we rate it for 2950 I believe. The Xtreme is in the neighborhood of 3500lbs.

You are still comparing apples with oranges though by comparing our street setup with the Exedy Twin. The Exedy twin is more comparable to our race clutch and it has similar benefits/tradeoffs. Ours doesn't have the characteristic twin floater rattle and doesn't carry the high price tag. I have no problem recommending our race clutch for over 500hp and I think Turbotrix and others have proven it performs and lasts. Would I recommend one for the street? Not usually, but a lot of people are happy with them on the street nevertheless. Same thing can be said for the Exedy twin.

I am VERY happy with my ACT HD Street Disc right now. I'm somewhere around the 400 crank hp and it holds just perfect.

warrtalon is correct on this one... i had both the act and the exedy in my 03 and i must say the exedy was by far the greatest clutch on earth .... if not, still far better then the act. spend the money the first time and you wont regret it. later on the exedy can be rebuilt as well to save you some money then.
