Max HP
Max HP
Exactly how much horsepower can an EVO 8 make without having to upgrade the internals? What products/upgrades in your opinions can take it there safely? Thanks
I need to disagree Claudius......Most of the tuners in the UK strongly suggest ARP rod bolts before any real power gains are sought........Although a relatively simple procedure, it still falls under the catagory of "internal mod"......I for one will replace the rod bolts before figures upwards of 300 hp are dialed in

If I were a tuner, I would stongly recommend you change the pistons and rods and crankshaft and oil cooler and I/C and injectors etc. from 350 bhp
(which some do, btw).
You need better con rod bolts of you rev the engine very high for very long periods, ie. track use with a lot of boost high up, always playing with the limiter for 15 or 20 minutes.

o.k. First, a clarification 300 Wheel or Flywheel HP. What happens, do stock rods bolts start to back out and spin a bearing? So, if I drop the pan and install ARP rod bolts I should be able to make more power safely?
The reason I am asking these questions is because I want to start upgrading my EVO and not have the constant headache of something breaking. Also, I am not a big fan of dealership service so I much rather do the repairs myself. With all the aftermarket companies out there competition should be great but when is too much overkill. For example, I would like to install a header, downpipe, cat-back, boost controller, ACCEL DFI - computer management and turn up the boost. Maybe a turbo and intercooler later on but for now the stock turbo/intercooler should work fine. Considering the efficiency of the stock turbo I feel that this combination should yield good HP numbers.
Any thoughts and comments would be appreciated.

I agree with waiting out for I/C and Turbo upgrades. Stick to header exhaust downpipe and AFC. I 'm not sure but I had heard that this engine is safe to over 350 hp at the flywheel more like 400? Not sure at all and I don't think it's right just heard it.
