Magnetic Drain Plug
Has anyone installed a magnetic drain plug on their EVO?
While the benefits MIGHT be dubious, I have had a magnetic drain plug installed on all three of my Honda motors over the last 11 years and over 170,000 miles with no problems.
When changing the oil, there has been a SIGNIFICANT amount of magnetic material stuck to the magnet in my previous motors.
Of note, the EVO's drain plug is EXACTLY the same thread pitch and size of my old Honda's. (Spoon, a well known Honda tuning shop, even sells magnetic drain plugs for Hondas transmission and oil pans).
Anybody have any thoughts on this? Any clearance issues inside the oil pan?

Ok, it looks like I'm going to have to be the pioneer, but I might need some minor advice:
Has anybody had the oil pan off a 4G63? What kind of clearance do I have to the crank or windage trays?
The stock plug is VERY short. Replacement magnetic plugs are commonly 1" to 1.5" long. (the spoon one is 2", but the Honda motor has A LOT of clearance from the oil pan).

The drain plug should be located at the deepest part of the sump for obvious reasons. Crank should not interfere at this location. Should be able to check clearance to windage tray when changing oil. I'll check mine this weekend when I do the change if no one posts prior.

Neither have either of the previous two Honda's I've owned.
The 96 EX 4 door Civic, however, DOES have a magnetic drain plug in the automatic transmission.
Anybody remove their transmission or diff drain plugs yet?

Nope. The EVO doesn't have a magnetic plug in the crankcase.

I had mine drain plug out on Tuesday for the first oil change. The plug was very short. The spot on the end was black. I didn't notice any metal stuck to it. I didn't check if it was a magnet either. From what everyone is saying it probably is not.

P.S. for everybody's benefit, I'll be installing a magnetic drain plug at the next oil change. Hope nothing bad happens.
The diff and tranny drain plugs are all magnetic. Your tranny plug is quite large too, probably covered in metal bits right now.
I'd like to know if anyone gets an oil drain plug that's magetic. Keep us posted!
