ToMuchBoost stroker thread!!

Well guys i have a 05 evo 8 MR with 12,000 miles on it. The mods i have so far are ...
- greddy ti catback
- perrin cat delete
- turboxs down pipe
- blitz sus intake
- hks 272 cams intake and exhaust
- halman boost controller
- turbo trix custom reflash

Befor i do anymore to the car i wanted to have a back up motor incase i blow the motor.. also soo thier is less down time i love my car to much to be without it for awhile .. So i bought a evo 8 shortblock off someone on here that had a spun bearing for around 1000 or so shipped. I looked on AMS site and saw they had a 1,700 core charge for thier blocks soo iam saveing money already.

Iam almost 99% sure i want to go with the 2.3 stroker because i want a fast street car. I will take the car to the track once in awhile but mostly will be for street use. I will be running alky also with the new motor soo i should hopefully make some good power. Iam stuck between two turbos though AMS 35R and thier 37R kit. But iam unsure if i went with the 37R if i should go with a high reving 2.0L .

But ok on to the real questions on AMS site what motor options are worth the money here is the list.

Upgrade to Oliver Rods - $414
Balance Shaft Eliminator Kit - $55
ARP Head Stud Kit - $95
Knife Edge Crankshaft Stage I - $400
Knife Edge Crankshaft Stage II - $600
O-Ring Block - Copper Wire - $150
New Oil Pump - $203
Core Charge - Block w/Oil Squirters bolts & Squirters- $1,743
Timing Belt Package - $185
4G63 Engine Gasket Set - $256

These options are for the 2.3 stroker short block. Also are ross pistons good for a really high hp car or are thier better pistons out there?

Well guys thanks for any help i know its alot but i dont want to waste "to much" money ..

Ross pistons are fine for just about any HP youre going to throw at it. The Oliver rods are very very strong however I dont know if its absolutely necessary that you get them, Id talk to AMS abou that.

If you want to save some $, stay away from the knife-efged crank since thats a lot. Not everyone goes with that from what ive seen. You obviously want the balance shaft eliminator kit, ARPs, depending on mileage of current one, new oil pump.

Regarding the 35R vs 37R, I will be in the same predicament someday but Ill probably end up going with the 35R since the spoolup is better yet it can still produce numbers that not many other street cars I encounter will be pushing. Theres nothing like quick response!

Thanks for the replys! About the pistons i was just wondering if they could support 600+whp. I know thier are a few other good pistons like CP and cosworth. But if the 500+ whp evos use it then its fine for me haha.

I will give AMS a call soon as i recive my evo shortblock and then go from there. i just wanted to get a base idea of what i was going to need to get.

Also i was wondering if thier is any aftermarket oil pumps that can be used in the evo? Or is the stock oil pump good enuf for any hp level?

thanks again!

No, it spools slower, but not that bad. Here is a quote from AMS.

"trades about 300rpm in spool time for the 75 more hp"

However, they made the additional 75hp with the 37R on a fully built head to toe car with race gas. If I were doing alcohol, Id probably just stick with the 35R.

Full out drag/street car... 37R
