Timing Tensioner Tool

Where can I purchase this tool and how much would it be? Does autozone rent out this part? Just wondering, because I'm not sure if it's worth purchasing it if I can rent it. Or perhaps anyone from Diamond Bar, California area can lend me their tool for a day?

Do a search actually.

Which mod are you doing to the car? cams?

if anything just goto www.otctools.com

search 6001 and it's there.

mlr-md-998738

It's the same tool just several dollars cheaper!

AMS is the way to go. Alot easier than ordering from OTC.

OTC isn't dificult at all. It all depends on which rep you get but def not bad at all.

you can make one for $3. I made one out of threaded rod and did two cam installs with no problems. Search...

www.lancershop.com also has the tool.. you can try them. Just don't use cheap threaded rod, its too easy to accidentally snap the soft metal that most rod is made out of if you turn the tool too quickly and don't give the tensioner time to compress, its also harder to tell when you've fully compressed the tensioner and hit a "Stop"

Ok, my AMS tensioner tool is the SHlT. I've had to cut cheap and homemade ones out of Evos, and it is no fun. A 3hr tops job turns into a day. I'd say for the money, the AMS tool is hands down my favorite tool (and I have more than a few "neat" ones ). It has done many cams jobs without a hint of failure. Definitely a best buy!

I agree the tool is NICE! I have access to one now. Back in the day (2003) when the EVO's came out and I wanted to do my cam swap the tool was very very hard to get. So, i did the threaded rod trick. It still works in a pinch. Just take your time. I would suggest the tool as a must get for EVO owners that plan on doing their mods and/or maintenance themselves. It is easier to get now and you will get your money's worth out of it so go buy one if you have the time.

I got the AMS tool as well. It works great. Well worth the money. I put anti-sieze on the threads as well just in case.
