FWIW, I have an 04 which also had the dreaded p0300 code that would ONLY come on in 5th gear at around 75-80mph. I had just bought my Evo when I started to realize this was happening, I almost just as quickly went to go sell it when I had this p0300 problem. I had tried everythin and there was no cure in sight. I changed my plugs, coils, dealer flash, nothing worked.

For some reason I bought a "Creader" and called it a day. It would still pop up once in a while but the Creader would catch it before I did. But low and behold, after I got my flash at AMS, I have NOT had any SES lights or p0300 come up since.

I cannot prove that the AMS flash cured it for me, but I can tell you that I am damn happy with over two months of no p0300.

This seems to be a huge issue for 03-04 Evos. I wonder if any 05 Evos have the same problem? If not, then how did Mitsu solve this problem on the 05?

Well aside from the point that a practically new car is giving me issues, I am kinda pissed because I have all these after market parts I wanted to install soon and get a flash but now I am afraid to mod and flash for fear mods will void the warranty and the flash could be jeopordized if the P0300 returns.

If you are still stock now, please stay this way and then deal with the p0300 so you have some ground to stand on when you go to the dealer. Because you know damn well, any mod that you put on that car will give them more reason to deny your claim.

Had my p0300 not gone away mysteriously, I prolly would've sold my Evo for a new one. But again, mine just magically stopped popping up. and I was at the same point you are. Hang in there man.

Well I'm gonna stop whining about it and just keep taking the car into the shop as long as it takes until the warranty runs out. I dont want to sell the car. I love my EVO. I just hope I get this fixed so I can take all the stuff in my closet and put it on the car finally and get a nice custom tune. But until then the car will remain stock (minus the tbe thats on there already) and I will keep trying to get this taken care of. Worse comes to worse, I'll just get the creader and a Dynoflash and take my chances. Thanks all!!!

OK for the record there is no knock sensor on the transmission and the crank angle sensor is on the engine block by the crank.

I have heard of isolating the knock sensor with rubber or somthing but you are risking it if there is real knock.

when another member said he got reflashed and the 0300 code went away he most likely had a good tune and the engine is much smoother in the range where the 0300 code is being triggered.

that's just a idea not fact.

Yes, that was a mistake on my part and I apologize for using knock sensor instead of crank sensor. I also checked an 04 FSM and there does not seem to be any pick up points for the crank sensor on the tranny. I could be looking in wrong place.

Isolating the knock sensor is risky, but it helps determine if it is noise from the knock senor that triggers the p0300 code.

I have to say I think it has something to do with engine/transmission harmonics, I had and ACT Flywheel and clutch installed, and My P0300 code is gone completely, nothing else has changed.

OK, the light went out after 4 days by itself. Now I know it will come back on and I know the ECU will store the code, but my question is: Is this normal? I assume yes but I'm bored and still pissed about my P0300 so I thought why not mention it and at the same time bump this thread for any updates (most P0300 info is so old). Thanks!

You are correct and the SES light may be gone but you car has already stored the code. ANd yes, it is normal for the SES light to turn off on it's own after it has not recognized any problems.
