RNR Race FMIC w/LICP
RNR Race FMIC w/LICP
I'm looking to purchase this kit pretty soon and just wanted to hear some opinions from those who are running this system. In the other thread people were posting 25whp gains on the STOCK turbo with only the core and LICP. How many people out there are actually getting these numbers? Also, will it generate a lot more lag at stock boost levels? Will I lose boost pressure? Would I only see similar large gains if I get tuned for it? The numbers and the price just seem to good to be true, so if anyone good shed some light on this it would really help me out.
I purchased one and installed and used it for a little while.
Install was a PITA. The IC is huge and being 4" thick it doesn't like to fit behind the bumper cover without trimming it. I did all the trimming but it still put pressure on the bumper clips in front of the wheels. I had a very hard time getting the FMIC to line up evenly. I suppose if you spend hours on it you could get it just right but personally I dislike the idea of customer trial and error install instructions. Another issue I had was the FMIC hung lower than stock which forced me to leave off the undertray (not good for road racing) and also forced me to enter my driveway at an angle to avoid scratching the bottom.
Performance. Well to be honest I noticed no gains from the FMIC (butt dyno: definately not 25WHP) but that may be due to the fact that I didn't increase my boost (21psi before 21 psi after). I imagine something that big would definately allow you to run higher boost but I am comfortable at 21PSI. I road race the hell out of my EVO and that was the primary reason I purchased the FMIC. To my surprize I did feel more lag than I had expected. Hard to tell if there was a difference at WOT but spool was definately affected.
If I go with another FMIC (instead of alchy) I would get something bigger than stock but smaller than a RACE FMIC. Honestly, I don't seem to be heat soaking my stock FMIC so other than an appearance mod I'm not sure what I would get from it. You hear BR saying you get 15WHP from his delux unit but thats only if you run more boost. If running more boost is what you are looking for then alchy is probably the way to go.
