5th gear grind in my IX rs

I just started getting a grind tonight going into my 5th gear. anyone else have this problem. I hope i don't have to try to get warantee work. Im hoping i can just change the fluids for a fix. any insight will be much appreciated. thank you.

yeah well if your still stock bring it back to the dealer and let them know its a simple fix. If your not stock then just play with the clutch engament. I had the 5th gear grind in my 05 luckly at the time i was stock and brought it back to the dealership but they fixed it in about 5 mins and it turned out it was something i could do myself.

Try switching your 5 speed tranny fluid with either:
Pennzoil Synchromesh or BG synchroshift

This usually takes care of minor grinding issues, if it doesn't then your synchros might be damaged. You'll have to take it in to be replaced ...

Dumb question... is it like an addative you mix with the normal fluid or does it completely replace your fluid? How much of it do u buy?

Pennzoil Synchromesh or Bg synchroshift are not additives, they are trans fluids that you replace. Go with the Bg synchroshift I heard better things about it. I think Lancershop.com has BG but iam not sure.

Use Royal Purple 75W90 and I bet your problem will be solved. A customer of ours couldn't go from 1st to 2nd above 5000RPM without grinding. Put in Royal Purple and 7800RPM shifts are no problem. I have used it in both of my Evos and every customer car we do a clutch job on. Never had a grinding problem even with the ATS clutch. Check out our website for the fluid if you can't find it locally. We stock it.

Anybody know how much it is to get the synchros replaced? My 5th is grinding every time I shift into it and have an app't at the dealership later this week for a diagnosis.
