Should I change oil after 600 mile break in

Well should I??? Seems prudent, but not sure if it is a waste. Any thoughts??

I changed mine at 600 miles. I don't see how it can hurt.
I did look for metal shavings in the old oil though, and couldn't find any that were visible to me.
It might be a waste, but I had a good peace of mind, and its only like $30 to do (yourself)

In many engines it's a good idea to not change the oil until the listed "break-in" has happened. Is the EVO's break-in done at 600 miles?

I am planning on doing my first oil change at 500 miles and the 2nd at 1000. oil is a cheap form of auto insurance.

Yes, fresh oil is cheap and good for your engine. But, you have to look at "break in" as well. Those particles that may be in the oil during the break in period ARE beneficial to the break in process as they help the mating process of the internal parts. Many engine builders will tell you that people have ruined new and freshly rebuilt engines by not allowing the oil to do it's job in helping with final break in.

However, that said, my suspicion is that Mits has done a very good break in at the factory. I say this because they use synthetic from the factory whereas dino juice is the preferred break in oil.
That's a GOOD thing. If that's true, then changing your oil so early won't hurt anything except your wallet. There really is no good reason to throw away perfectly good synthetic oil. It costs more because it does more. Spend the money on the best oil filter you can get, that will help more than throwing away perfectly good oil.

Yep... although I will personally extend this break-in period to 1000 miles...

Mobil-1 10w-30 I believe, actually. Changing it in the 1st 1500 miles or so is probably a good idea (peace of mind, at least), although the manual states that it should be changed just like regular intervals -- 3700-5000 miles or so depending on one's driving. Still, I'm not sure if Mitsu cares that much of how long our cars last, and I'm sure it's hard to prove if changing it at the normal 2000-5000 miles point in the 1st oil change would hurt. However, changing it in the 1st 1500 miles, and every 2000-3000 or so thereafter seems like a safe bet.

I did my first change at 1500 miles. The factory oil I removed was very dark.
