Lets hear from those with ported intake and throttlebody!

It seems that I rarely hear from anyone running a ported intake manifold and larger throttle body. Can anyone with experience share their thoughts and dyno numbers if available? This seem to be the only "bolt on" that I have not done and I was wondering if it is worth it.

ED IMHO I dont think its worth it for the minimal power gain, for the money spent and the labor involved in removing and replacing it...

Just my opinion

i am running buschur's TB and ported intake manifold, i have a steady CEL that i have yet to see which code it is, and you have to adjust your boost after installation, your idle will never be the same either, if you are running a stand alone and a bigger turbo it might be worth the extra ponies in the upper RPM's but other than that save your money for somthing else, but my throttle response is great much improved still not worth that "service engine light"

someone also advised me to skip the ported stock intake manifold and T-body and just go for the AMS VSR manifold.... but with that manifold you'll need a standalone of some sort

that AMS intake manifold is a beast, i would stick with stock, on this one unless you plan to run a stand alone or a custom tune, I didn't dyno before and after but my butt dyno guesstimates 5 hp and better throttle response

I like mine.

The power gain comes from the extra pound or 1.5 lbs of boost you get by reducing the pressure drop accros the t.b. while increasing the i.d. of the entrance to the inlet manifold.

The throttle response is amazing. The response is too much for me when i had a 9.8 housing.

my 100% city driving mileage per tank went from ~215 up to 225.

This mod isnt the first thing you would want to spend your money on, but its pretty decent. Definately better than a lot of those bogus fmic's out there.

I think the ses light comes from a high idle condition.

Plus we all have access to ecu flash now so therefore if idle is an issue it can be resolved

Can't you just back the idle/air screw down a bit to lower the idle? Great posts. Keep em coming

I heard that the stock evo intake manifold gasket pertrudes into the runners alittle, and is not an exact match with the head and manifold. Can anyone validate this?

So not true, i don't have a stand alone and I was running AMS stages 1-3 and the VSR and it was all good.

I think the thing we are forgetting is that spool up time will be or should be greatly increased. it's not always about big power gains. I would take a quicker spool up rather than 10 horse any day of the weak.

well I don't have a ported intake manifold yet but I do have a 65mm TB and my idle is ok But some times it idles up and then back down to stock. I have a custom dyno flash and great throttle response. I was wondering how hard is it to remove the stock intake manifold. I see you have to remove the head and I was gonna port the intake manifold, head, and install new studs while I was at it.

Did you enlarge the inlet manifold entrance i.d.?

Who's 65mm tb?

I have noticed that the oem t.b.'s have a thick (~0.002-.003") paint like substance applied radialy between the tb housing & the blade.

I am guessing this is mitsu's way of helping to gain control of the idle while being safe with the tb body to blade clearance.

I wish i could find out what that goop is that is being applied to the tb's from the factory.
