No cat, anyone ever get caught?
No cat, anyone ever get caught?
i am way more nervous driving around the evo with no cat than i was in my audi s4. Has anyone got caught at a inspection check or by a cop. Any stories are appreciated.
Cause they monitor this forum and keep track of whose screen name translates to a real name.
I'm kind of curious about this myself. I would like to know about people outside of California mainly since they are the eco-****'s.

and a big fine if I'm not mistaken.
I'm not really concerned about the penalty. I just want to know if no cat makes our cars loud enough that people get hassled about it frequently. I mean it can't be louder than some of these freakin pickup trucks around here.

Hmm, I didn't think they'd actually fine you. But I guess it kinda makes sense if they would. Fix-it just seems more logical to me.
If you're worried about the extra noise, I might try putting a resonator in there. I'm sure a test pipe would create quite a bit more noise than normal. I wouldn't know first hand though, because I have both a cat and a resonator, and my car is pretty quiet.

you don't think they will actually fine you if you are running no cat? come on man!!! what r you thinking? this is a very serious offense, the ticket could be up to 10k in fine. Removing a emission control device is a very serious offesne!!!

I've got a hiflow and a large resonator and my car is very quiet as well. That's why I'm thinking of getting rid of the cat all together. I've got some backpressure issues and killing the cat seems to be the most straight forward way of taking care of them.
CT. emmissions laws= that of Cali and you only get the BIG $$$$ fine if you own a business and purposly remove a customers cat converter,or any emmission controlling device for that matter, and not reinstall it with a similar (= or better)component. As far as being pulled over and found to have no cat converter the worst I have seen is a 15 day inspection required warning in which case you reinstall your stock exhaust system and go get it inspected
I have heard that in the city(New York that is) the police do give you Hell for no cat but I cannot confirm that,it is just what I have heard.Maybe some N.Y.C. people can respond if that is true or not?

i am asking because i know the fine is 10000 per cat removed. On my s4 you couldnt really see the cats were missing. On this i look under the car and you can easily see theres a test pipe where the cat used to be. Companies that remove cats sell it as "offroad use only". thats how they cover themselves.
In SC they dont enforce emmissions testing due to laws passed by the same people that enforce them saying that certain unprivaleged groups cant offord cars with fuctioning emission systems Fine with me

And, isn't that a federal law? I didn't think cops enforce federal law, just like they can't ask illegal aliens if they are U.S. citizens...but I'm sure they've figured out a way to punish us for "illegal exhausts" while they are still scratching their heads on whether they should keep people from violating our national sovereignty..
