Quick Question on Shaft Play

Let me start off by first saying that I DID search and did not really find an answer to my question. It is this: I have a stock turbo with less than 18K on it, I noticed that it has some shaft play in all directions( a very little) but I was under the impresion that shaft play at all was bad. Is this normal? Also have some blue smoke at start up and for a bit after(thats my whole reason for checking). I have turbo timed it since the begining. Maybe because it is cold it has this play and has no bearing on the blue smoke? Thank you in advance.

It is side to side not in and out of the turbo, not very much at all like maybe like 0.5 to 1mm.

i think a little side to side is okay as long as blades do not hit the compressor cover
