What happened??

I apologize if i posted this thread twice, i could not find my other one and i tried searching, so this may be a repost!!!

Well i have some bad news. No idea what happened. I just got done installing my injen intercooler piping, new bov, and an oil change. everything went fine and the instal was quick. I started up my car and let it warm up and idle for about 2 mins and everything was fine. The idle was normal and everything seemed to be ok. I went to take it for a test drive and decided to take it to about half throttle to about 4k rpm and about 16-18 lbs (estimate, i didnt quite catch how much boost) and all of a sudden.. POP!... The car stalled. I popped the hood and checked it out. there was a little bit of smoke and my exhaust was smoking black smoke the cars idle was all messed up and it was missing very badly. I also noticed that my intercooler piping cap that i put on it was blown off. The car wouldnt stay started. Idk what happened? Blown turbo?

I also just got done doing a compression test and everything was fine with that. It was about 180 all the way across. I did notice that the plugs seemed to be very black almost as if they were all fouled. But i did try to put new plugs in and nothing improved. Also, i took off the valve cover and checked out my cams and springs to make sure nothing had happened there and everything was fine. I did notice that on my manifold it seemed to be smoking from cylinder 4, and it was black smoke coming out. I'm getting ready to check my head gasket and manifold gasket as well. Any other ideas and what not would be helpful! Thank you

You mean this thread or a different one?

Btw, why did you call the plastic bov a JDM BOV? The JDM MR DV is aluminum. Did you buy a stocker and think you had a JDM MR version?

Anyway, you already know what happened - you popped the IC piping off (or the cap). When that happens, the car runs like absolute ***, runs very rich, coughs black smoke, and usually won't idle for crap. You are really messing around with having holes in your IC system and just trying to cap it off. You need to get a proper BOV with the proper recirculation even if you have to borrow a stocker from someone.

I apologize for calling the plastic one a JDM, i got mixed up. I meant i broke the stock plastic one, and i cant really wait for a JDM one to arrive (metal/MR) due to driving it everyday. I did manage to put a cap over the IC piping and the turbo inlet and it ran fine for a few minutes. The thing that i dont understand is why there would be smoke coming out of my manifold? Almost like there's a leak, or i blew a gasket which was causing all the smoke under my hood. I replugged the IC piping and the inlet and made sure they were on there good. I started the car up and it was still missing very badly, and smoking out of the hood and out of the exhaust very badly. I can hold my hand down next to my manifold and actually see/feel/ and smell the smoke coming out of it. I have had experience with a collapsed cylinder and this is very similar to what happened, but the compression test said 180 all the way across. I'm sure my intercooler piping has something to do with it, but i'm also pretty sure there's more to it that just that. Any other ideas??

make sure the MAF plug is clicked on good, might've loosened out. but, you said you capped off *both* holes? meaning on the i/c pipe AND the intake pipe??? if so, would be interesting to see where exactly you bolted the BOV to.

also, it sounds like you got a cracked xs manifold causing the smoke underhood

Yes i did cap off both holes. I actually found a pretty nice spot to but the BOV. It's over by where the stock airbox used to be. Fits perfect and i aimed the bov to shoot back into the air intake (Idk if that's really going to help or do anything), but it fits nicely. Just got some extra vaccum hose, ran it down, got some JB weld glue, made a bracket to hold the bov in place and boom. Simple and easy so when i get my new bov i can just cut off the old bracket without damaging the original bov. And thanks evo150, i will pm you asap!
