I had a UR Crankpully, it worked and I had one last 72K miles.

 

I just wish they were not so damn expensive! Not taking anything away from their intended performance of course...

However, I can't see too many people really having a true need for them.

I have one aswell and you can see difference right after install spool were about 100-200 RPM sooner. also dyno showed about 9-11 HP gain. Back in 2004. I got over 20,000 miles and no issues with it besides crack in the BUschur stage 3 head. That I had to through away. LOL

I've never seen an automotive issue so divisive.

The published advice against crank pullies comes from well known automotive engineers (Dinan, anyone?) and anyone that can read a physics book.

The published advice promoting crank pullies comes from either halfway-known pulley manufacturers and the "i or my friend has one and has had it for 3 million miles without a problem" kind of people.

It seems a pretty one-sided argument for any intelligent person.

Personally, if I'm going to risk total engine death, I'm going to do it with a 200 shot of nitrous with Jessica Alba as the prize for winning.

 

I do not have a crank pulley on my Evo, but I do have one on my race car. I have the 4 piece UR pulley set and have had ZERO problems with them. Almost everyone in the SR20DE/T community runs them and I have yet to hear a problem from the pulleys.

The engine with pulley has been in the race car since aug 02. I have been beating the crap out of the car in door-to-door racing and no bearing failure from the pulley.

I am in the middle of an engine swap on the race car since I will be in a new class in SCCA. I just swaped the entire UR pulley set to the newer engine

Did you notice a performance gain even?

 

You would not expereince a performance gain with the ATI...but he has a built 2.2l engine in his car.

 

I have to disagree. A number of people have experienced a performance gain with the ATI on 2.0L motors. That, however, is the secondary benefit of a properly dampened motor. The primary benefit is the dampening of the natural harmonic frequencies and the longevity of your main bearings, and thus your motor.

 

Even if it has no negative affects on your motor, I think the performance gain for a street driven car wouldn't be too substantial. For the money, you could do another mod that would be more useful. I had an ASP Pulley on my C5 vette with heads/cam and never had any problems. Was it worth the money and time, no.
