i spoke to the guys at buschur, ams, etc...

all have nice offerings,

but when it comes to our clients, we want someone close, that we can depend on, JAM is 40 mins from us.... and im glad we chose them...

this is for our daily driver project evo 8...

we may have them build a motor for our ix, but im not sure....

very happy with their work, which is probably an understatement!

some small inconsistencies in the casting of the head...

the lighting makes it look worse than it is...

Good to hear you got it back!

JAM is awesome to work with and they do great work. I can't wait to see the numbers with a 35R on there. I'm assuming that you got the 800hp build from Jacksons.

Good luck with the build.

Very nice. What kind of piston to wall clearance do you use on a motor that big with that much piston sideload just curious.

I'm always amazed that with the huge money people spend for a EVO shortblock from one of these well known builders, they don't get a "build sheet" from the machine shop. That's common practice in the V-8 world. Without a build sheet listing the specs for your particular build, how do you know what you need to replace a piston if you don't have the weights and balance figures. How about the piston to cylinder wall clearances, the clearances of the rod and main bearings, or the ring gaps? If you ever need to replace one piston, what are you going to do? If your motor grenades, how will you know what not to build (in terms of clearances) the next time?

For that matter, how do you know the machine shop even measured the clearances in your short block? If they did, it's routine for them to write it down, so that they can make sure that everything was done to spec. If they have it, it's easy for them to give it to you.

I dealt with a local shop for my 4g63T DSm motors that did not charge nearly the prices for a short block that EVOs seem to command. They have a torque plate for 4g63s and do the machine work with great care. I get a build sheet on every motor they put together for me. They do the same for the 9 second V-8 motors they build.

If you're spending thousands of dollars, folks, you either need this info, or you're not experienced enough to know what to do with it if you had it. In that case, nevermind.

Nah some really like to keep it a secret. I was just try ing to see if specs were equivlent to that of a turbo honda, which I have personally built before. Plus some piston manufacturers suggest different piston to wall clearance based on the piston and the application. Like a JE piston which expands due to the high silicone content may be diff from something with low silicone content as far as piston to wall clearance.

well, being a professional road racer, and by that i mean, i got paid to race cars.... i found in my experience, and through our shop, that I dont need to have the answer for every question, I just need to know people that do.

We dont claim to be an "engine building" shop, that is not our expertise... we are also not solely an EVO shop.... therefore, We dont mind paying a little extra for someone else that is an expert. We did alot of research before building this motor, and went with who we felt was the best solution.

I have flow sheetsetc.... B ut if you want the clearance info, i suggest you contact JAM yourself. I am not here to publish their information. They use different pistons, different coatings, etc than the "majority" of other kits people are using... so therefor i will leave it to them to answer these questions...

We just wanted to the most professional and courteous company to builld our motor, and from this point out (once ive extensively tested this combination) our client's cars.

cheers
