Evo 8 Final Drive Gear known issue/TSB?
Evo 8 Final Drive Gear known issue/TSB?
Long story short I got a used Evo 8 from an Acura dealership that was making noise, mostly over 50mph, higher pitched wine. This happens even when the car is in neutral and coasting down the highway- the noise gets lower in pitch as the car slows down. Acura took it to Bell Mitsubishi- the tech there said it was the final drive gear, there is no actual failure problem with the gear but it can be replaced under warranty as a known issue and said they have issued a TSB over it. I searched EvoM, I searched the Mitsubishi website, I Google searched for Mitsubishi TSB documents and all I found was a post on here where someone said "The Final Drive problem" as if it is something already known. I need some more insight into this please....
Well the used car had 15,500 miles on it when I bought it and it had already had a the transmission, transfer case, and fuel pump replaced (*edit*which I obviously didn't know about until two days after I got it). Acura demanded to take it to a Mitsu dealership by them, Bell Rd. Mitsubishi. The tech there said it like above, making noise, TSB, etc. I called Mark Mitsubishi in Scottsdale this morning and their service guy said the TSB is for the final drive gear slipping out of gear while driving. Just trying to get as much info as possible because the dealership won't take back this piece of ****.
sorry to hear it man.
yea the evo 8s did have a tsb on 5th gear, but that was it grinding when shifting into it.
the whine is more than likely the transfer case.
sounds like whoever traded the car in really beat the snot out of it
