That is not a melted compressor wheel. I haven' t seen a melted compressor wheel ever. I don't think you can actually melt a compressor wheel due to the fact that it cools down itself in contact with the air.

From looking at the picture it looks like perhaps the impeller ingested something and cauises some damage. You could also be looking at a turbo that has the center cartridge damage causing it to have huge play consequently the imepeller touching the intake compressor housing.

Either way, i wouldn't buy a damage turbo unless is really dirt cheap. Now days you can get brand new turbos for almost the same price and hassle free.

LOL. as a souvenir the turbo is a cool part to have, specially when you find them for dirt cheap on Ebay.

it could make a fun little way to learn how to take apart and rebuild a turbo too.

i always love taking things apart and seeing if i can get them back together. but i don't like expieriment on important parts of my car.

Since the only difference between the VIII and IX turbo is the compressor housing, this would be a cheap way for someone to convert a good running VIII turbo into a IX turbo.

That is crazy. I've never seen anything like that, I don't think it's debris damage. If it is in fact heat damage then don't even consider it, the turbine shaft will more than likely be damaged. If the compressor got hot enough to distory aluminum, who knows what else is damaged.

IF the damage is debris damage, you can purchase a 16G-R compressor wheel from us for $150 and reinstall. Assuming there is no other damage. I have to special order the wheel though.

Cheers,

Gary

From: Aberdeen, NJ now in Ca.
It looks to like the shaft is bent.
Looking closely, you see that the compressor blades are rolled on the end...but only on 2 sets. The housing is scored and the rest of the blades have clearance. On the hot side you can see that three of the blades are heat discolored and again the housing is scored. This turbo is shot and wouldn't be worth the shipping price and the seller is posting that it would cost 110 USD to the US. I guess he thinks we're idiots and will buy anything.
