Is this a boost leak?

When I hit boost I get a surge of about 1000 RPMS then it drops back down and resumes acceleration.

My IX has no mods and is only 2 months old with 4200 on the motor SO I know it can’t be the clutch.

I am tempted to just let the dealer deal with it tomorrow but if it’s something simple I would rather not let them mess with it.

Thanks for your help.

Sounds like the clutch is slipping.

Do you launch at every red light? Do you slip the clutch like mad?

Nope I never launch, in fact the first 2K on the motor I almost never hit boost to break it in good. Is it possible to burn it that fast when I never launch it?

although most people dont know, clutches are warrantied for 12k. go to your dealer and tell him that your clutch is slipping. be nice to the service manager and say it should be covered under warranty. maybe the car was abused before you bought it.

Well when I bought it had 1.6 miles on it So I know for a fact that it’s not abuse, I did a 2000 mile break in period, and do not ride the clutch. I put 46000 miles on my DSM before I needed a new clutch and when it started slipping it slipped straight from the start of the gear not just mid boost.

There is a clutch test you can do when you put it in a high gear from a dead stop and hit the peddle to WOT and watch it slip if its going bad, well I did that and I get no slip until about 42K in 3rd gear then that surge bumps me up about 700 RPMs then back down about 500, then acceleration and boost goes full again.

Another factor I was considering is I put gas from a place I never used before the day this started happening, is there any chance the gas it bad and causing knock and off timing?

Thanks for all your help.

Yes, that's a classic sign of clutch slippage. Since you're so low in miles and haven't raced it or modded it, they should cover it under warranty.

This has nothing to do with gas, man. You just said you did the clutch test, and it slipped. That's how it works - when you hit peak torque, the clutch slips, rpms shoot up, no acceleration, then the rpms catch, and you accelerate again.

nope, your clutch is bad. what you're describing is textbook for a slipping clutch.

Thanks for all your help everyone.
