in mid corner at the limits of adhesion, you would be stupid to just lift throttle completely. In just about any car you would put the back end in front with that kind of stunt.

But that being said, the Evo does respond quite well to very light throttle modulation in the corners.

Thanks for the replies fellas,

I think it was manily just my lack of familiarity (sp) with the car. It scared me a bit because of my past with the turbo 7. Chimp's point is taken and I must have been high when I wrote that part about lifting mid corner, since you would never really step out of the gas like that you would typically be featherin the throttle not stomping and snatching.

I will take MrAWD's advice and check the hose connections. On a side note, I did manage to have the turbo inlet hose come loose yesterday on my way to work, on the boost hard in first and second pulling out into traffic, quick full boost in third then off the throttle... it stated hesitating and running like crap so I pulled off into the median, couldn't find any loose hoses but figured it was sucking unmeterd air, got towed to the dealer where they said they checked all the hoses and found that the clamp on the turbo inlet was loose enough to spin around the hose. I din't think you would be able to "blow off" a hose at the inlet since that section is open to the atm via the filterbox etc.

mad_VIII the dealer that told you that hoses that clamp on the turbo inlet was loose enough to spin around the hose was that causing bucking on throttle off.. compressor surge on the Evo VIII.

No it was causing much worse. The car would not idle, it would crank up then die. And it was very obvious something was wrong since it happened at speed, i kept it running for a 1/4 mile or so before I pulled into the median (I was int he left lane of a 4 lane devided highway).

i've noticed this in my oz rally in the lower gears and especially at mid to low rpms. i think any car will do this, just the physics of taking the power out of the drivetrain all at once.

Well, I don't think it is surge anymore but yeah from time to time but I have changed my driving style a bit and generaly have put this in the "things not to do" catagory.

Well for clarification, my original post was asking if this was compressor surge, not saying that it was.

After living with the car for a couple of months I don't think it ever was compressor surge that I was describing.... I think like others have said that it's just the car making a rapid shift from acceleration to deceleration combined with the ecu re adjusting (seems to desitate a bit anytime you go from boost to vacum and back to boost again).

As far as getting rid of the symptoms I described, I just avoid the situation that was causing it. In other words I wait till I have a clear stretch of road before I get on the boost, and If I have to step out of the pedal I try to do it smothly and not as suddenly.

mad_VIII the throttle off compressor surge does it happen to all turbo cars.

The throttle off compressor surge is it a rough ride or do you not feel it that much.

I think they all have the potential. BOV's (and whatever the factory chooses to call them like, diverter vales for example) are supposed to prevent surge, thats what they are for if I'm not mistaken. SO I guess if your BOV is not tuned properly or not working properly you could run into compressor surge problems.
