Im getting ready to replace my clutch, and we had to drain the tranny to get it out. My question is can gl5 be used in the tranny safely? or is it only gl4. please please reply. thanks in advance.

gl5 is o.k. for a short time, gl4 is what you need to put in it. So put in the 5 and drive down to your performance shop and get some MT-90 redline and put it in....RRR

Use only GL-4 if possible. GL-5 is better than nothing, so if you have no other choice it will get you by until you can replace it with GL-4. If you search there are quite a few topics on transmission fluid, many of which reference GL-4 and GL-5 ratings.

It's a cheap alternative but you'll need to swap it out every 10k miles. This is not a good idea considering the difficulty of replacing the tranny in our cars. Foot the bill for the oem fluid and save your self the cost in the long run.

there is no possible way on this planet that his car would be damaged by putting in gl-5 and driving down to get some redline. If you think so, you are mistaken. what are we talking 10 miles????? Please.........

GL-5 oils contain high concentrations of sulfur-based EP/AW additives. These additives don't get along with yellow metals.

If your tranny or transfer case specs GL-4 only, then it probably contains copper or brass components that would be damaged by a GL-5 fluid.

/\ Exactly so why even risk it. I go by 30k intervals with the oem fluids for a daily driver.
