Has anyone ever melted all 4 spark plugs?

I got my car tuned for alcohol injection @ 30psi dropping to 22psi at redline stock turbo. It was great on the dyno then when I went to the track it melted the plugs and I think I blew my head gasket. I had white smoke poring out the back. It was so bad the guy at the time slip booth said he couldn't even see me as I rounded the corner. Any suggestions?

i'm betting you probably blowtorched atleast one of your pistons.

I'm pretty sure the alk was on. At least it's suppose to be on for anything past 15psi. I haven't looked yet but I hope my pistons are still good.

Ditch the alcohol and run race gas the next time you want to go fast.

But buy new pistons first and get your head checked. If you melted the spark plugs, it definitely created enough heat to potentially warp the head.

You most likely leaned out and had a ton of detonation. The engine is probably done. Most people seem to think you can run leaner A/F's with Meth, that's only somewhat true. It really needs to be richer than it would be with just gasoline.

What kind of alcohol kit are you running?. 30psi is what I race at the track with methanol and a little bit of race gas.

the white smoke could be also bad seals on the turbo or smoke from the water/coolant exiting the exhaust valves.

Difficult to say until you drop some pictures. Did you positively confirm that all your 4 plugs were melted?

This is true, since methanol is 50% oxygen it basically burns itself.

CH3-OH......50% O2 and burns itself?

fuel + no O2 = no fire! dude, you need to go back and read your chem101 book!

2CH3OH + 3O2 → 2CO2 + 4H20

oxygen is 50% composition by atomic mass in meoh

hydrogen = 1
carbon = 12
oxygen = 16

Good observation, also there is no advantage to be gained by eeking out a few tenths of a point in the AFR. Power comes from timing NOT from living on the edge of the AFR

Power loss from a slighlty rich mixture is minimal and in no way worth the loss of protection from high cylinder temps.

Power is in the timing, don't fuel starve your engine (assuming that you aren't running pig rich of course)

4 MELTED PLUGS !!!!! Holy Fricken COW !!!! I know my signature says that happiness is a warm 4G63 .... but not that warm!

Most people suggest testing the meth evertime you start the car to ensure that it's working. On the SMC kits there is a button that says test on it. you can do this while the car is idling and it should bogg the car horribly. Of course the pump could alway fail after that and lunch a motor. This is why I'm staying away from meth. I have one friend who has already had two pump failures in a short time. Luckily his engine management has "Lean Run Protection" which has countermeasures to protect angainst "total plutonic reversal"

50% oxygen by mass. Since methanol has such a low amount of hydrocarbons vs say octane (C8H18) and has the oxygen atom you will actually need to richen the A/F. Chem101? Hah.
