Used turbo concerns?

I've already purchased a used OEM IX turbo with 7k miles on the clock. I got it for about $550. The plan was to install it on the 10th and tune it later that afternoon. Now I'm being offered another OEM IX turbo for $800 with core exchange. The only difference is that the second turbo is still in break-in. The Evo it's on has less than 800 miles on the clock. Is it worth the extra $250. Both setups are in excellent condition with no shaft play.

Save the $250 if the other one is in good condition as you say it is

Thanks Gus. Any other opinions? I'm going to give my answer to the owner of the second turbo tonight.

IMHO if the turbo has no shaft play and the turbine wheels look to be in good condition then I would save the 250 as well.

OK makes sense to save the $250 and put it towards the new injectors. Thanks again guys.

Save your money. The 16Gs on our cars are basically bulletproof.

Well not completely. My 16G VIII is making wierd noises. It is making boost but the car's throwing a lot of timing up top. We think it might be damaged, doing 26psi of work to make 22psi, and consequently the charged air is too hot. For months I've been planning to do either a 16G IX or 20G IX so this is an excuse to do it sooner than later. A cammed '05 Evo, running a 3" TBE, a test pipe and 22lbs of boost should be producing more than 270whp/280wtq on a Mustang dyno. It's not the engine either. It passed the boost leak test, compression test, and leak down test with flying colors. My snail is the prime suspect.
