Sorry to bring up an old thread, but Ive been doing alot of thinking concerning the oil temps in the Evo. Because the car is a race car, and because it was sold to many "high ambient temp" markets, it was fitted with a nice stout oil cooler to keep temps down. In the summertime, all is well as temps stay right around where they need to be. Remember that cold oil, is worse than oil that is hot...sub 300 F. Oil has an operating temperature at which it works best, thats why caining a motor when its cold is not good.....you want your oil temps up, everybody looks at water temps.

Anyway, because oil stays under 70 celcius all the time in this colder weather here, which is 158 F, and holds steady at 60 C on the highway cruising (increasesd flow to oil cooler) Im gonna block half the oil cooler off with tinfoil to get these temps up a bit in this cold weather. If half doesnt have to much an effect, Ill try blocking the majority of it up. Ideally, Id like to see oil at cruising on the highway 75C all the time. What temperature does the oil thermo open up at and where is it located?

blocked off 98% of the vent in the front bumper with aluminum foil, and it made a big difference in temps around town and on the highway. Suggest it to anybody that drives their Evo in colder climates

Um, you shouldn't unless you start doing some serious power upgrades; either way, pretty unrelated to the oil.
