need help oil inside the maf sensor and pipe

today i was takin out my air box to get to my hks bov to change my bov inserts. and when i pull apart my stock air box i found oil inside the maf sensor pipe and i check to see the rest of the pipe connected to the turbo i also found oil. i dont know if my turbo leaking oil or if somthing else happen. and if my turbo is shot does the warranty cover for a new turbo. i have about 51000 mile on my 03 evo and i dont have that much mod done to it.

i wouldnt see why the warranty wouldnt cover something like this... but the warranty doesnt cover anything at all on our cars. however if something does go wrong.... its a great way to justify calling AMS for something bigger and better.... lol

Visualize, if you will, the path the air is taking in that intake pipe...towards the turbo. Now how would oil travel against airflow and gravity (it's uphill towards the MAF from the turbo...) to deposit itself in this area?

It would make more sense to suspect the vent from the valve cover that goes in to the intake in this area is slobbering oil. This could be from a faulty PCV valve that is not closing against boost and blowing oil out the other valve cover vent in to the crankcase. OR your air cleaner could've been blocked form dusty conditions, too many love bugs being sucked up, etc...the more blocked the air filter, that harder the engine sucks to get air form anywhere it can...too much suction and it pulls the oil out of the engine in to the intake...

I would check out the simple cheap things before condemning your turbo.

Do you have a K&N drop-in or another oiled panel filter? Sometimes those things are over-oiled and spew oil onto the MAF and intake snorkel. Just looking for simple solutions.

and no you are not leaking from your turbo. The oil is coming from the breather hose from the valve cover. If you were leaking from your turbo you will see it outside the turbo no inside the intake. hope that helps

speedracer2169 is right on the money.

FYI, there is also oil in your intercooler as well.

The hose going from the front driver's side corner of the valve cover to the intake pipe right before the turbo is the source of the oil. A catch can will extract the liquid from the vapor and pass only the air pressure back to the intake, not the oil.

Do a search for "catch can" and read some of the posts.

Heres a pics of a cheap catch can WRX driver have been using it for year.

All it is is a G3 Fram Fuel filter (under 3$ at your local auto parts store). This is a pic of it on a WRX. On a EVO you would just install it on the hose that jbrown mentioned.

chances are cleaning it out would probably better then leaving the excess oil... think about it. If it aint suppose to be there, they make parts to keep it from getting there. then you obviously dont want it there... It wont be that hard to clean. take you time and be careful.
