so went to put the manifold and 02 on today. well lets just say its postponed for tomorrow. Ended up breaking two bolts. One on the manifold that bolts to the turbo and another one on the hotside broke off. What we are gonig to do instead of ordering a new hotside since the car needs to be running by the weekend since its a daily driver we are just going to drill the rest of the bolts out and do it with a nut and bolt. what do you guys think about this or should i just try to find something to drive until i can get a hotside here? Let me know thanks alot

Matt

Sorry to hear those studs snapped. I remember when I changed my hotside the top studs that I needed to remove to get the manifold out just would not turn. I spent 2 hours working on those things with vise grips. The last two were just cut off so I could get the thing on the ground and remove later. I was sore for a week

I recommend 14" vise grips for the procedure

If the boken bolt and stud has enough to grip on then I would say soak it in PB blaster overnight and purchace a heavy duty vise to get them off. If you absolutely have to drive the car then you can just through the assembly back together and undertorque respective fasteners to keep from bending stuff. It may leak but will get you to work.

What ever you decide and if you don't know, prep every bolt and stud with nickle based anti-seize

yaeh all of them turned except for the one in the hotside that we had to heat up. It was pretty much seized in there. Which i think the heat help but the bolt ended up snapping like we thought it would. But i think we are just going to drill them out and put nut and bolt deal in there. should work out just sucks not having a car and stuff not going as planned. OH yeah and hopefully the 02 sensor will come out alright coudltn get that ***** out either!!!

yeah the thing is though is that theres not enough grip on them to get a pair of vise grips on the studs. Which sucks. Thats why were going to drill them out and go that route that way we wouldnt have to buy a new hotside for 250 or more. and when i get the stuff on i dont plan on taking the stuff back off. But thanks for the help i really appreciate it.

One of the two studs in the front of the manifold stripped on me when I took the nuts off. I tried to use a new nut when I put everything back together, but ya'll probably know what happened next. The threads were destroyed half way down. Is there anything that I can do to fix this?

wow these seems to be a huge problem when doing these two things. Boscoyo the best thing youc an do is take some vise grips and take out that stud and get another one from the dealer ship or a local nuts and bolt store and thread it back in.

Thanks, I was thinking that I might need a new HS. How do you install the stud without damaging the threads?

**edit- Do I hand tighten or should I use a more bonafide method.

i would carefully use a pair of vise grips i doubt you can get it all the way in there with your hand. There should be a spot in the middle of the stud where its not threaded you can put the vise grips on that!!!!
