5th gear grind

Has anyone experience a grind when upshifting to 5th in the higher rpm range ? I tried it several times, even depressing the clutch fully. Typically, I would drive at freeway speed, then downshift to 4th to simulate overtaking, give it a little gas and then upshift at 70-80. Get that annoying grind everytime above 3k rpm. Any suggestions ?

You miss your 2-3 shift often? Alot of 3rd gen RX-7s had this problem.. after missing 2-3 shift and hitting 5th it wears out the syncros..

Sounds like you need to take your car to the dealer..

i can count the number of missed 2-3 shifts on one hand. i have missed 1-2 a few times too. think the syncros wear that fast ? doesnt happen on any other gears and ! only have 2500 miles on it. since the car is daily driven, i'd have to say 3/4 of that in commuter driving

Well, it the 5th gear syncro will get a fairly big jolt when missing the 2-3 shift.. but that still seems to be very premature..

Take it to the dealer. Should be covered under warrenty.

If you were racing the car or hauling a** and missed 3rd and went into 5th at a high rpm, that will surely kill 5th gear syncro.
