had my exhaust done for 60$ on my evo

went to a local muffler shop and had them do a quick job just to tie me over... im leaving in about a week for a couple of months so i didnt see the point of buying an exhaust from RMR, buschur..etc right be for i leave. So i went and had them chop the exhaust off right after the first resonator, throw on a straight 3" with no muffler. Sounds good, truth be told it does really need a muffler, to make it sound better, but for now. Really though, its not that loud at all, it gets a lil' loud at about 4300 and up, but when cruising on the highway i was really impressed.. havent had a chance to really get on it and see the difference, but i am holding about .5lb more boost up to redline than what it was holding prior to the exhaust.

Wow! Let us know once you get a chance to compare the difference before and after. It would be cool if you could dyno it and see the numbers. Is it legal to not have a muffler?

u have to have a cat but a muffler is optional as long as the volume of your car does not go over the noise pollution laws in your area

I'm seriously thinking of having one done at a muffler shop as well. Since there are so very few bends in the exhaust I think it would be well worth it! Except mine would be from the cat back and with a muffler.

It would be interesting how this type of catback holds up horsepower gain wise and $ per horsepower against some of the 3" exhausts of the tuning shops

3" exhaust?

I heard your only supposed to have 2.25" exhaust for backpressure issues.. is this not correct? i'll put 3" if we're supposed to, but not if its bad for teh car. someone please get back to me on this.
thnx

From: houston tx,
its turbo... your turbo gives you all the backpressure you need really. 3 inches is great for a turbo vehicle.

well I don't have a turbo as of yet but I will within the next few months. should I install a 3" now, or would that be bad for the car since its not turbo-ized as of yet?

thnx again

ehh... it kinda depends, if you can deal with the slight loss of torque, knowing that FOR SURE in a couple of months you WILL be putting a turbo in the car, then go ahead and do it, save yourself the money.. i did that with my '00 gt when i turbo'ed it, i did the 3" exhaust first in anticipation of the turbo that i put on a lil' down the road. As far as performance goes for the exhaust, it has more "umph" i guess you could say, i really like it now, more than i did when i first got it, when it idles you can hear the loap of the cams and lifters, and its not bad AT ALL suprisingly on the freeway, can barely hear it, until you get on it that is. I had a friend drive it (lucky him) just so i could see how it sounds, very impressed for 60$
