EVO VIII paint quality

Hey Guys, I was wondering if any of you lucky EVO VIII owners
have been having problems with paint chipping on the front and
the lower panels similar to what some Lancer owners have been
having?

I have yet to own a Japanese car that has great paint.... The Evo seems about average in my experience.

My old RX7 has AWSOME paint.. no chips and ~20 years old. and still shines like new..

Somewhere in the late 80s early 90s it went to **** though.

my theory is this....

As I understand it cars are built for a much shorter lifespan in Japan then they are here (look at the boneyards full of Sylvia, Gloria, & Skyline clips). Thusly they are painted with a shorter lifespan in mind then a comparable American car. Look at the paint quality on a CTS, 3-Series, or any Ford truck - they are all superior to the paint job on all of the Japanese cars I have owned. That said, the last American made car I bought was my 95 Cobra - so the paint job isn't high on my list of things to look at when shopping for cars.

just my thoughts....

Thats a very good point. Most cars in Japan are there to serve a limited lifespan, most no more than three years. After that, its off to the junkyard.

Well the paint looks good but if you look at the edges of the hood and doors you will see tear drops.

With the myriad of divots already in my glass windshield it's no wonder why I have a few paint chips.

I don't blame the paint quality or it's application, it seems pretty good to me... I blame the trucks that throw rocks from their tires!

BLAH!
