Found leak between turbo & hotside but...

Installed 10.5 hotside. Drove car for two weeks and was not boosting as much as I was prior to 10.5. Adjusted wastegate pre-tension several times and was finally able to get the car to boost but the taper was dramatic. Finally found a leak between the turbo and hotside.

There is a little nipple attached to the hotside that does not appear to fit anywhere in the turbo. This nipple is keeping the turbo and hotside a few mm apart and leaking exhaust that should be helping me boost.

Does this nipple actually fit somewhere in the turbo? Should it be there? Is mine just not lined up correctly or do folks solve this problem some other way? Thanks.

Not really sure by the pic what it is but there is a pin on the hotside of the turbo that should fit into a slot on the other side to make sure that it is lined up right. Then you tighten the clamp that connects the two.....by the way i am drunk right now

that nipple is actually a dowel and it lines up the hotside in relation to the turbo so your hotside will be in the proper place to bolt up to the man

1. youll have to pull your dp bolts off (you dont have to take the dp just the bolts
2. unbolt the mani from the block and the hotside and pull the mani off
3. unbolt the clamp that goes around the seam where the hotside meets the turbo
4. line up the dowel pin (on the hotside) into the turbo side hole
5. then revers order to reassemble

hope this helps

Thats what it looks like to me, too. What did you do with the band clamp that you took off to get the turbine housing off the turbo? There is a dimple that the nipple slides into so the hotside and turbo sits flush and then you seal it with the band clamp.

Skillz folks. lol! Actually, when I put the assembly back together after installing the hotside, I placed the nut in the clamp such that I could get to it from above without removing anything (except heat shield, of course).

I can remove and reinstal the clamp without any trouble with everything else in place.

As far the nipple and slot go (Hmmm, that sounds a lot more exciting than car talk), it looks like the nipple of the factory hotside broke and is still in the slot of the turbo preventing the nipple on the 10.5 from penetrating the slot (what the hell am I saying)

Looks like I'm gonna have to remove the nipple and try to install without it. What y'all think?

You could always get a small bit and drill out the broken piece.

Yeah, I would try to get the old broken nipple out of there instead of removing the new one. That way you know your new turbine housing is lined up a-ok.
