I have problems getting into 2nd from1st if it is cold out. I usually just depress the clutch and go through all the gears while I am waiting for my car to warm up, I dont know that it actualy helps anything but it gives me somthing to do while the engine wakes up.

Transmission when cold have different tolerances than when fully up to temp. In cold weather it may take a bit longer to warm up. But warming up your car is essentle for it to last! As the transmission warms up, it will come into it's designed clearences. So if you rush the warm up you could cause premature wear are some parts. Take for instance the pistons....which are aluminum. The cylinder walls which are iron take much longer to heat up than the aluminum. Reving you cold engine makes the pistons expand at a much greater rate than the cylinders can. This in turn causes scuffing of the cylinders, added wear and removal of the stock coating on the pistons. Bottom line if you want any car to last.......warm it up. The best way is to start the engine and let it idle....no reving...at all untill temp is in it's normal operating range. Also as the engine is coming up to temp, the heat is passed on to the transmission. If you live right next to the onramp of a freeway you should really let the drivetrain heat up. Shaft seals, u-joints, syncro's will all love you if you do so.....hope this was helpful.

Remote start car alarms really help this along.

I had my 6spd through 2 winters and never had problems shifting even despite tons of racing and abuse. If it's cold, it will be tight, especially that first 1-2 shift, but at operating temps, it should be smooth. Sometimes, people blame their tranny on what is a bad (or going bad) clutch, and other times they just need some fresh fluid.

My tranny sucks until it is warmed up also. Just take your time on your shifts until it warms up.

Oh yeah, when it's still cold, if you double clutch, it works great. Just try it...

There is a thread about bad synchros and shifting from 1-2-3 gears.

Mine felt crunchy from day one, 1st oil change I flagged it to the dealer who sent me on a drive with a tech, but it was such a 'slight gut feeling' sort of crunch that in the end I gave up pushing it (yet I have in writing that I complained) now it's cold it's doing teh exact same thing, just now it's audible.

Next week I'm checking her back in and getting the dealer to do something about it.... hopefully.

My 1-2 shift feels sticky when the car's cold. If that makes sense. Once it's warmed up, it feels fine.

It's been about 7 months or so since I've changed my fluid. But then again I haven't put that many miles on her. So I'll be doing that soon. BG FTW.

Do some reading - there's been tons of discussion on it. It's just not as good - some of us found out the hard way.

gotcha.

I'm startin out the new year with all new fluids and i'm gonna start modding. So buschur here I come.

Speaking of trannies, i might be switching out my clutch again. I'm gonna wait and just get the exedy twin. Nothing really wrong with my current clutch, I'm just still not satisfied.

I had the same problem last year. Anything below 50 or 60 degrees and I simply could not get into any gear at all. Usually by the time the motor warmed up almost completely I could get into 5th, which would then let me get into reverse, but it wouln't shift normal until 10 or 20 miles of highway driving. This was with a typical organic single type clutch. When I went to the Exedy twin HD, the problem went away. It's still a little grumpy in freezing weather, but it has never not let me get into any gear right away. I should have gone with this clutch from the start, but hey, I was being a cheap bastard and I got what I deserved.
