Best Turbo for AutoCross?

Well I am thinking a turbo upgrade for my evo 9. The primary use is for autocross. I will like to know what you think is my best option. I saw some turbo kits from AMS and Buschur but I don't now which is the best one in lag, response, hp etc, etc, etc.

Happy Holidays!!!!!

IMO the TME is an amazing turbo for autox, but on a IX it seems like a bit of a step down. you're scarificing overall power to gain a bit more spool at the bottom end.
i'd stay with the stock IX turbo and maybe add some cam gears and adjust them to gain some earlier spool.

I'd say there's no reason to touch your stock turbo if you want to autocross. You can make 400whp with over 400wtq below 4000rpm, and it doesn't cost you a lot to upgrade the turbo plus all the time doing the install. Not really sure why you'd want to upgrade.

Also, I disagree on the LT - it hopefully will be a great turbo that is verified by customer cars, but it will not spool EXACTLY like stock. If it's only a few hundred rpm slower im spool, that will be GREAT for the power it should make, but I don't think it's right to claim "stock spool."

Some people told me the same thing that the stock turbo is great for autocross.

My Mods are:
Greddy Catback
Down Pipe
Cat Delete
272 HKS Exhaust cam
Skunk Sprocket
FMIC Turbo XS
Aem Intake
Walbro FP

With these mods I get 352whp at 93oct. My goal is 400whp I don't know if stock turbo will be capable.

The only mods that I haven't made is port the turbo, port the manifold, and buy a 02 housing. Some people told me that here are some good hp.

Any suggestion in mods if I keep the stock turbo?

Yes, it's capable. It's been done since 03, and the 03s have a less powerful version of the 16g. Especially if you already make 352whp with such basic mods on pump gas, you should get close to 400whp with cams (exhaust cam alone doesn't do much - you need a mivec cam) and race gas (can't use alky injection in SCCA).

The stock turbo with the right mods/bolt ons would probably be your best option. Any upgrade turbo would be perhaps a larger turbo consequently giving you a worse spool up.

In short distances and at midrange rpm I am inclined to say the stock turbo should be the best choice.

Road course and dragstrip is a different history but for autoX the stocker is the way to go.

The only choice is Cosworth or GSC. They both make their own IX intake cam for the MIVEC. After that, you'll need a race gas tune for auto-x days.
