Another turbo thread with poll

I plan to upgrade from my stocker this spring. With all the 50 trim kits, 35r's and new 20g I would like to hear your opinion.

My car already has all the bolt ons, 272's, ams fmic etc. I have been privledged enough to run C-16 for the remainder of life for my Evo. Most of my driving will be roadcoarses after catching the bug last year. I am also very interested in the new AMS 23RR and plan to build my motor next spring. My suspension is in the process of being worked now so dont worry about that. My concern is a turbo.

My first thought is to go w/ a 35R simply because I can use the high boost although I am still on stock internals and stock ecu. I could still run a somewhat conservative tune but still have amazing power.

The 50 trim and 20g-LT I feel are kinda in the same realm of things. Yes there is more power to be had from the 50 trim, but I am nervous that I will regret not going with the larger 35.

I would really like to hear what others that road race are using. Others with experience from these turbos please chime in also.

If you need a faster spool, use the smaller rear housing they have available for the 35r

41 views and only 4 votes. I thought there might have been a little more interest in this poll. Probably got lost in the rest of the turbo threads.

I voted 20G-LT, but how about a 50-trim now, and then if you decide to upgarade later you can slap a 35r on there w/ no problem!?

I don't road race competitively. But I do spend almost every weekend on the track during the summer months (I instruct with a whole bunch of clubs).

Personally, I've just swapped my stock Evo 8 turbo for a 6.5 RS--TME turbo (titanium impeller & shaft; 10.5cm^2 hotside) and big-bore s.s O2 housing. The spool-up is dramatically quicker and there's a tiny bit more top-end power. The car makes full boost (20 psi) at just over 3000 rpm. On the track, I turn the boost down to 17-18 psi anyway (I run 94 octane pump gas on the track).

I find the engine is MUCH more responsive. It really makes it easier to adjust the car's mid-corner balance. Since the revs never drop below 3000 rpm on the track, it almost feel like a normally-aspirated big block! Seamless, smooth power delivery. For me, that's the ticket to fun on the track.

That's a tough choice, if you are going to be getting a stroked motor I would go bigger than the 50 trim. I am already wanting more power now that I am used to it. Have you considered doing something more in the middle like a 3065? You can get big topend out of them and not suffer as much lag as the 35R. The spool is still pretty nice on the 50 trim and would make for some fun road racing. I will be out there hopefully this spring to try my hand at it

35r will be a pig on the road course.

I say 50-trim or MAYBE a 3065 if you want something bigger that might still be good on a road course.

If you're doing a stroker the FP Green / 20GLT will spool like mad, but on a long course might be a little light on power.
